1. Re: [POSEN] Wilhelm LASALLE and Caroline BROSE - Colonie Springberg? [1]
Colonie Springberg is a residence listed occasionally in the church records of Schokken (Skoki). Sometimes only Springberg is listed. The surname Boettcher is found in Schokken records (Lutheran) in the 1820s. 1822 Reich, Gottlieb married Boettcher, Anna Elisabeth 1825 Boettcher, Johann Michael [age 22] married Behnke, Anna Rosina [age 18, Neudorf] [Fathers: David Boettcher; Peter Behnke, Gramsdorf] Source: LDS microfilm 0752859 Lasalle sounds more French than German, so maybe does have origi

Therese, Be sure to check the Polish Genealogical Society of America's website at www.pgsa.org . Check out their databases for marriages in Polish Catholic churches in Chicago and the Death Notice databases from the "Dziennik Chicagoski". There is all kinds of information in those two databases. If your marriages took place before 1915, the marriage database will also give you the LDS microfilm roll number. If you look at the LDS microfilm and either copy the information by hand or make photocopies, you ar

4. Re: [POSEN] Church Records [1]
After a certain point in time, churches were required to copy their books, and when available these have also been filmed by the LDS. The good news is that the LDS has filmed virtually all the church books in every Polish and German archive. The bad news is that means if they don't have it on film, it probably hasn't survived. The most common exception to this, is when these books ended up in the hands of a local Catholic priest and squirreled away. As time goes on, sometimes these books sometimes end
5. Re: [POSEN] Scultetis [1]
Dear Joseph and Gerd, The problem with mayor - "scultetus" ("scultetis" is genetive) was mostly the problem of land property. Legally in Polish Republic in 17th or 18th century the landowner was a proprietor of town or village with all the fields, forests and buildings. The peasants living in village were only users of this (like workers in factory), so if they decided to leave their house, they could not take anything with them and apart of personal freedom it was a real slavery in practice. 6. RE: [POSEN] Fw: village location [1]
Joel: Gertrude's town is a possibility, too. It would help if we knew what kind of record you are getting the information from, or if it just something you got orally. If a record, a couple more pairs of eyes might decipher the village name. My Great Grandmother's name as written in German church records is "SCHOSSKE". Has anyone ever heard or seen this name? I am not finding it anywhere. I have tried using the 'B' for the double s also. She came from Buchwald. I understand there are many Buchwald locations as I have a very long list. Does this name translate to something else? Thank you for any suggestions. Marge

I look forward to checking out the Kreis histories. I looked at the German online telephone book, but there are 77 TUMMs and quite an abundance of BARTSCHs (these are the two main surnames I'm researching). The BARTSCHs were in Silesia, though. My main focus is on Anna Hennriette TUMM b. June 03, 1843 in Niewiemko and married Ernst August BARTSCH on November 26, 1865 in the US, so my Posen search is fairly narrowed to 43 to early 60's. I would be interested in finding out what the Red Cross might have as we

Hi David- You do have big job to do regarding your ancestor Johann Friedrich.
