4 Potts were listed in the surname index of an old Cherokee genealogy
book called "Old Cherokee families and their genealogy." There are many
English names listed, since the English married Cherokee and vice-versa.
The book index and excerpts from the book can be found at
http://members.aol.com/rarebk
There is also a complete index of a book of people who in the 1800's
sued for Cherokee citizenship, I think it is called Cherokee Citiizenship
dockets.
This site also has the 1835 Cherokee census posted,
I found several Potts in Loudoun County in 1700's, 1800's. From line of
Jonas Potts, Wales, and via Philadelphia.
I found a Lydia Potts marrying a Thomas Rowland in 1807.
Doesn't say where or to whom Thomas was related. I suspect it could be one
of the Rowland's of Botetourt County, VA. Other Potts married Rowland's in
Botetourt.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Does anyone have good information - or bad! - on Isabella Jane Hockshaw
b Dublin d 1-6-1898 Prospect TN, wife of James Coldwell Potts b
4-27-1827 MS d 11-11-1906 Prospect TN ?
Thanks,
