Anyone searching for Ancestors that emigrated to America may find this site useful. http://www.castlegarden.org/ "CastleGarden.org offers free access to an extraordinary database of information on 10 million immigrants from 1830 through 1892, the year Ellis Island opened. Over 73 million Americans can trace their ancestors to this early immigration period." I found several of my people by searching for the surname in a time range. Betty Pace

6. Re: Roberts- Flintshire, Montgomeryshire & Glamorgan [1]
Hi Carole, This might be your John ROBERTS in the 1851 Census, lodging in Llanidloes -- note the age and birthplace -- perhaps this will help narrow down your search for his birth in Flintshire. I imagine he was probably mining at The Van lead mines on the edge of Llanidloes. 1851 Census, Parish (and town) of Llanidloes: HUMPHREYS Edward h m 39 Lead miner MGY Trefeglwys Great Oak St. /f117/p6 HUMPHREYS Bridget w m
7. Re: [POWYS] BRUNT-Eardisland, Talgarth and Trehafod [1]
Hello Robert, A bit of a tangle to sort it all out, but will give it a try. Hafod is indeed a name for Trehafod near Porth in the Rhondda Valley. This lies, I believe, without checking, in the old Parish of Llantrisant. Llantrisant was an ajoining Parish to Llanwonno, that also made up part of the Rhondda. The other Parish of course, is Ystradyfodwg. I had family who moved to Talgarth from Llandeilo Graban in Radnorshire, and also some who moved to Merthyr Tydfil then on to the Rhondda Vall
8. RE: [POWYS] Thomas family Brynhavod 1861,71 [1]
Dear John, Thank you for this useful information, yes I think you could have a point there, as both my great grandfather and his wife Hannah were listed as born Breconshire, I had a feeling that theyw ere maybe both from the same area. You could be right about the missspelling, I need to see a census return for 1861 and 71 at thata ddress to see if the Thomas family were there around the time that my great grandfather said hew as born there. Thaks for your help. Liz -----Original Message----- From: John Bal

12. Re: [POWYS] Maddy and Lewis [1]
Hi Sue, I can't answer your specific question, but can give you some hope. I have searched for a couple of deaths in the 1860's that were nowhere to be found on 1837online. Eventually, I asked the local register offices to search, and they found the correct death certificates! When I've received the certs, I've double-checked 1837online, to be sure I had not just missed them.....but they were still not there. 1837online is a tremendous resource, but some things are missing. Good luck! Norma USA

14. COUNTY RECORDS OFFICE [1]
Hello All, I haven't the info. to hand as yet but I was wondering if there were any full or part time researchers within the list who would be willing to check County Records (Montgomeryshire) for 2 baptisms and marriage in Kerry and Llandinham Montgomeryshire? I am in Hay on Wye again in October but I am unfortunately able to travel any further. I have to accept that attimes I am going to have to pay. If there is a researcher available hopefully they would kindly pass me on there e mail addss. and I shall

17. Lewis death [1]
I have been to the Powys Records office at Llandrindod Wells and looked through several Parish records. I found a burial for an Elizabeth Lewis on 26 September1857 at Llanigon. I believe this is my 4 x gt grandmother (paternal, mother's side). According to the record she was 83 which would match with the census records for 1851 which I found her in. There were some strange words in the Register after her name. They looked like non tyscallyn L.P. Has anyone any idea what they mean please. Thank you
18. Re: [POWYS] Re: POWYS-D Digest V05 #196 [1]
Hi, The Richard Meredith you are writing about is not the same one as Richard J. Meredith who subscribes to this list. I am in contact with the one who lived in Leicester as we are both researching our Mills ancestors. I remember his family from the time I lived in Llanidloes many years ago. Richard is retired and living in the Tamworth area where he is at present either the Mayor or Deputy Mayor. I can let you have his e-mail address. By the way you don't happen to remember Margaret Johnson who taught l

20. Re: [POWYS] Marriage mystery [1]
Hi Norma If you are sure that the first child was born in 1856, I would suggest that you look for the marriage in 1856 if you haven't already done so. I have researched a lot of families & it is very common for the first child to be born in the year of the parents' marriage! Good Luck!! Ruth

22. Maddy and Lewis [1]
I seem to remember being told on the lists that you didn't have to register death even in the 1860's as it was not compulsory until later. Am I correct in this assumption? My problem is that I have found my 3 x great grandfather's burial in Llyswen Parish records giving his burial date as 20 June 1864 aged 89 years (I believe he was actually 90). I have trawled through the 183online but cannot trace a Death Certificate. As he was said to be blind in the 1851 Census I wondered if he finished his life in

25. LLANELWEDD/LLAMBEDER puzzle [1]
Hello all. I have just come on one of the many mysteries that are thrown at us by the census returns from time to time. The 1881 census gives a possible relative as being born at Llanelwedd, Radnorshire and the same family (there is no question that it is the same family) on the 1871 has him born at Llambeder, Radnorshire, Genuki does not recognize the place, is there anyone who can throw some light on this, has the enumerator got fed up and just put anything down that came into his head a
