The National Welsh Society is the Welsh National Gymanfa Ganu Association,
which meets every Labor Day Weekend somewhere in North America. This year is
San Jose, Calif. For information, look up WNGGA on your browser. I highly
recommend it -- and I am on the executive Committee of the Board of
Trustees!
Of course there is also the Welsh American Genealogical Society (WAGS), and
the NWAF National Welsh American Foundation as well.

Hi Margaret,
If I may ask, where did you get this CD? If this has been posted I
missed it.
I was in Wales in 1995 on a UK bus tour. We had breakfast in Bristol
and dinner in Ireland and lunch at a MacDonalds type place on the side
of Main Road 40? near Carmarthen. Other than our bus driver, Clive, we
did not get to talk with the Welsh people. Then our luck got better.
We got the ferry at Fishguard and found aboard a coach and his teenage
team going to Ireland for a meet. I asked him if he had anyone
Hi Gwynneth, looks like I don't need the number after all.
Julie Preston told me to order directly and they don't use the number,
thanks for your kind offer.

Hi All,
as Digest subscribers will have discovered, there seems to be a problem
with Digest mode and list messages are being sent individually.
The problem seems to be at Rootsweb's end and I suspect that they already
know of it. I don't think think there's anything that individual
subscribers can do at present.
Sorry for any inconvenience...
Cheers,
Malcolm

Hi all,
Just to say a big thank you to all those who have given me help with finding
out more about Maesyberllan Chapel. As usual this list has come up trumps.

Yes, as a matter of fact I did. So Gary, lighten up
and unsubscribe.
I always have a nice day - sounds like you don't so I
hope today is better.

Good to see Powys-L is working well!
A point raised by someone on the list was of the exchange rate to
the dollar.
There is a currency calculator on GENfair at:

We give similar advice to that below in 'Cronicl Powys'.
It would be best to email Rhiain at the National Library of Wales
and ask for the price inclusive of USA postage in British Pounds
(GBP) then contact ICE (see below) and ask for a sterling cheque for
the value stated by Rhiain. ICE will bill you for the amount in

Thank you Eric, and a very Happy New Year to you all in Llani.
I am not sure which Mary Cleaton you mean, is it my cousin Mary near here? I
think not. My father was one of 8 children, nearly all born in Llanidloes or
Newtown area. His grandfather John Cleaton in buried at Dolfor church with
some of his own family, but he was born at Llanwnog, and his parents lived at
Tan House, Trefeglwys in 1843. The census records show them all there then.
I shall be pleased to hear more of any of them. One aunt was
Hello,
Can anyone tell me some reasons as to why some families in Wales chose to vary the spellings of their last names from their other family members?
Also I am looking for some books with the history of Penderyn, and the Soar Church included.I have contacted the National Library of Wales, and was given some titles and referred to Advanced Book Exchange.I have also searched Barnes and Noble (out of print books)and haven't had much luck. Can anyone recommend any other major sources to search,or even provi
Even if that line died out, there are still Stedmans around not far away. There
were certainly some at Aberystwyth when I was at school at Ardwyn in the late
1960s.

Thanks (on their behalf) for the kind offer. Why don't you pop in to
see Catherine (Assistant Archivist) and she can put you onto
something useful on a mutually suitable day each week. I started off
with several small collections of a couple of boxes each and am now
1/3 of the way through a 48 box one! Catherine had another volunteer
working there last year who did some sterling work on a regular
basis but he hasn't reappeared yet.

Hi Bill and Dennis,
While we are on the subject of parishes, may I ask for a little help?
What LIST would best cover these two parishes in Pembrokeshire:
1. Llanvyrnach, Postal Code SA350BZ, 7 to 8 miles south of Cardigan
2. Meline/Melinau, Postal Code SA413TE, 7 to 8 miles south-southwest of
Cardigan at or near Crosswell
Also, the earlier Baptist church Olcon which was 25 to 30 miles north of
these two. I do not know its exact location. Due to computer problems
and shortage of time around Christmas I u

Nancy,
Wesleyan Methodist ministers had a "circuit" they traveled, so it's very
probable that the ROBERTS did not make the trip but, rather, the minister
performed the christenings when he traveled to their parish. It is not
uncommon to find events recorded in the registers that cover a very wide
area. These ministers would also sometimes travel wherever they were
invited to preach -- not necessarily within their "circuit" -- and would
perform christenings also, if asked.
