Hello All, I thought I would publish to the list as others may find it of interest. I found one Gwilliam baptism from St Mary's.... it wasn't the most detailed of searches given the weekend that it was. Alice Kate Gwilliam was baptised on the 11th August 1872 her Parents were William and Sarah Gwilliam...... William was a publican. There were a few Lovett baptisms two of which belong to John and (H?)Esther Lovett Harry baptised June 23rd 1867 and John baptised Aug 13th 1871......John being a Labourer.

Hi Delphine
Haven't found as yet any Probert saddlers in my tree but have many Proberts
in the area - in particular Glasbury, 8 miles from Brecon and then up into
the hills, Clyro, Newchurch, Colva, Glascwm and Aberedw.
If you'd like any more info on these please contact me.
Happy hunting

Hi Maureen

Hi Angie,
I am glad you are enjoying the Glascwm CD. I really must get one myself.
Some of your names caught my eye because they feature in my family. You also
mention Colva as an interest, which also features in two branches of my family.
My two times Greatgrandfather James Smith married Elizabeth Price in Colva in
1833.
Elizabeth Price was a daughter of John Price andborn in Llansanffraidd
Hi Glenys,
Yes, my brother uses a different card with a low limit and it seems to work
well. In fact he has ordered several items for me with it.
Whether or not it protects such things as your 'credit rating' and 'user
identity', I really don't know. I suppose it might help to do it under a
different name too, but whether that is legal or not I don't know.
About 5-7 years ago, I experienced many calls over a period of close to
two years, from some collection agency, I think in Winnipeg, who left

Does anybody know why some farms in Wales have the same name but are called
Upper and Lower plus the same name?
Have they been divided in two?
Jill in Sussex.
Dear John
Thank you for the very useful info you have come up with. If two of Maglona
Lewis' sisters were in an orphan home in 1881 it does seem that both parents
were dead by then & also that no-one in the extended family could be called
upon to help. I don't suppose it helped that there were no boys in the family.
All the same, if David Morgan Lewis was described as a Landowner in 1871 there
should have been an estate of some kind to come to the daughters. I will try
to see who was at the farm i
PS the 1871 Wales census shows her with her parents and siblings at
Caersair, Isygareg. Can send image off list if interested.

Hi Mike and Lesley,
Have you seen the book I listed yesterday re Tymawr in Abergwesyn, on the
road towards Buelah ? "Parishes of the Buzzard" by Ruth Bidgood at #10? It really
is a great book re local history, places, and people there, I was reading
some of it at 4am today......
Best wishes,
Dennis Cleaton
Which families are you researching Glenys?
Thanks.
Alison

Hello Jill,
The census entry for 1871 is:
Llandilofawr parish, Tachloyan and Tiresgob hamlets (these are very old
hamlets that I
don't think exist any more. I'm not sure about the translation of Tachloyan
(also spelt
Tachlouan) but Tiresgob means Bishop's Land)

Thanks for this research, and its really interesting to know.
Out of interest, I did a search on William Ashton for 1881, who was
recorded on the 1851 as deaf and dumb. I was interested to know what
became of him. I came up with a William at Glandulas. This could be
another person, and he could have died, but if its the same person,
then there's no deafness recorded. Census bit pasted at the bottom of
this e mail.
Failure to tell the enumerator could be down to a number of reasons

Hi All, Has any lister an interest in the Brooks family of Hay? Just getting my final notes ready for trip to Hay. Ispoke to the Churchwarden of St Mary's today ....all sorted for next Saturday. I have to look up Thompson/Evans Thomas and Lovett for other listers..... did I miss anyone out? Regards, kevin, Co Cork,Ireland.
Hi Dave,
I am very happy to have helped find your connection.
There must be many other 'invisible' people in the chain of communication.
I am so glad that Alison found the URL that I had forgotten to note down.
It's a very interesting story and I imagine it accurately reflects the
lives of many ordinary folk of that time.
I suspect that the genealogical links described in the gravestones need
quite a bit of further research before as
Hi Judy,
I had 'Norton Antivirus' on the machine way back when but somebody got in
and I lost a lot of stuff because I wasn't being careful about back-ups. A
friend showed me how his computer was getting 'hits' every 5-10 minutes
from weirdos probing for info. I installed Intego 'NetBarrier' after that.
It's been good but I'm still careful about not leaving my modem turned on
when not using it. I must say that this new ISP I joined in January seems
to be vastly superior to previous ones at blocking spam.
Firstly, more Deafies! Cool. Now this starts to question the first
cousin theory. It hints at a potential deafness gene from earlier
generations in the the family?
However, if my understanding or should I say memory of genetics is
correct, I think recessive genes only carry in the female line because
of XX? Long time since I bothered with genetics, therefore forget the
above theory ... unless there is a relationship between maternal
lines. I really do need to brush up on this ... and in the meantime,
I
Dear Judy,
Whatever made you think that I doubted your reference to St George
Hanover Square?
I thought it to be a strong possibility because I saw that Multimap showed
that Hanover Square was just north-east of Mayfair, where my Maglona's
tentative Mum, 17 year old Maglona Lewis, worked for the Marquis of
Aberdovey.
If I had any doubts, it was that Daniel Ashton, a 20 year old son of a
Machynlleth bootmaker, could afford to live in Mayfair, which I imagined to
be a very expensive part of London, Hanover
Hello Ruth,
What an enormous job you have done - and so quickly! I am so envious of
your skills!
I'm afraid that I am still beaten by the bafflegab but thank you very much
indeed for all your work.
Might it be right to assume that the hand behind this verbiage was paid by
the letter?
I hope Edward Evans & Nicholas Bennett are still taking their duties
seriously - they're not yet halfway through their 500 year assignment.
Have I got the important part here? :
"I direct that my said sons John Ashton and Evan
Hi List
My CD ROM with the Glascwm parish registers on it arrived today! On first
glance there is more info here than I could have found in hours pouring over
films - what value!
Thank you Powys FHS for producing this - may it be the first of many and
thank you especially for the people who worked towards publishing it.
Must go - I have people to find!!
Thanks again
Angie
Searching for Proberts (found lots in Glascwm already today!), Minton,
Sheen, Like, Pritchard, Goodwin and anything to do with Colva!

Hi Judy & Listers,
I realize that this is non-genealogy and I apologize but the important
topic of the secure use of computers for genealogy is quite relevant.
I believed that personal credit card information would be more secure in
a telephone conversation made to the business rather than sent to them via
computer & internet. For this reason, I would prefer to deal with
'1837online' and 'Ancestry.com' on the telephone with regards to my credit
details and am quite frustrated that they do not offer that
Hi Kevin,
So glad you are having such a good time in Hay on Wye. I have the Francis
Kilvert's diary book, and, as you say, of great interest to people with
interests in the area of Clyro.
The Gwilliam entry struck a chord too, as I think one of my Smith descendants
married a Gwilliam.
I do hope you found whatever you were researching too.
All the best,
