I grant you this was in Rockingham County, Virginia and in 1855, but I am now going to assume it has something to do with establishing inheritence rights. Both my great-grandfather and the family of his first wife were large land holders. I also found insta

Was it normal procedure for the father of children to be named as their guardian officially when their mother died? >> The reason the father would be appointed guardian of his children is due to the fact that the children are inheriting property. This was quite common. Look for that property. Happy hunting,

12. Yost Famil(ies) of Preble County [1]
I remember a Darryl Yost of Preble County, Ohio who had a farm, I believe on Camden-West Elkton Road near, perhaps, Quaker Trace Road. (or maybe it was the highway from Gratis to Camden...I just don't remembeer) He was known to all of the children of Shawnee High School, a consolidation of West Elkton and Camden High Schools in 1957, as "Sunshine". He was bald, heavyset (not fat, just a large man) and invaribly radiated warmth and good-will - always smiling and joking with the schoolkids. He became kn

14. Re: Biggs/Glines [1]
Jerry, I am currently trying to find information about an earlier Ephraim Biggs. In my ancestral family there are three Biggs marriages. One is my 3rd gr. grand parents: Thomas Newport m. Sarah Biggs in Butler Co., 6 Jul 1821. Another is: John Baker m. Rachel Biggs in Butler Co., 1 Oct 1828. Another is: John Biggs m. Cassandra Baker in Butler Co., March 1820. A biography of John Baker states that Rachel Biggs' father was Ephraim Biggs, an early settler in Indiana (before 1800). Early tax and census records
15. John Grimes/Isaac Glines/Aaron Biggs [1]
Dear researchers, Donny Perry sent me this info in an Attatchment, but I think the info is important enough to post to this list. If John Grimes wife was a Susanna Glines then who does this Susanna Glines belong to. There association with Aaron Biggs and Isaac Glines Sr. is also very important. at this point I'm wondering if John Grimes is not actually John Glines and that he married a Glines cousin. This occured frequently and there is some connection, but don't know what it is yet. Here is what Donny
