Thank you again, it was worth a shot! Eleanor _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

Hi Cora, I am searching for Conrad Hermsdorfer around that time; and his sister Annie (or Anne). Had to replace my program with Windows XP & changed my internet provider. I wish there were people in Germany seeking information on Gorba and Hollmann as I haven't found them on ships lists or Ellis Island. Nara archives has nothing & most of the records from Antwerp were burned. My grandfather left Antwerp on the vessel Illinois in 1894. Grandmother Hollmann came earlier but I have no clues on her except

12. Re: [PRUSSIA] Surname interpretation [0.98012]
OH Dear!! I guess people had problems back then just like people do today!! I always thought that life was 'simpler' then so people had fewer problems BUT I have my ggrandmothers brother for example....BOTH he and his wife committed suicide!! The wife in 1910; she was in the Ogdensburg Psychiatric facility and I wrote to them....she committed suicide by 'slitting her throat'....(IMAGINE THAT!)...I wrote to the hospital and do you know that they still had the records!! She was only there for 9 days and he
13. [PRUSSIA] Von Hindenburg Estates [0.98012]
I am a new member to this list and have a lot of Prussian ancestors. One family came from the little hamlet of Neudeck. Family lore says they were tenant farmers on the Von Hindenburg estates. No clue as to how valid this is, as no one living knows. A bit of research indicated that Von Hindenburg did die in Neudeck. Any thoughts out there as to how to pursue this story? Where would that area be on today's map? The family attended the Lutheran church when living in the US. Any ideas and suggestions gr

Amy; The Germans to America CD's start in 1850. I did a search and found quite a few Schwantes. The earliest ones came in 1857. Did not find a Christlieb listed. There was a C.A. 24. [PRUSSIA] Catholic/Lutheran Marriages [0.98012]
Dear Prussia Mail List, I have ancestors from Posen, Prussia and was curious how common it was in the 18th -19th centuries for German-speaking Lutherans to marry Polish-speaking Catholics. Some names in my family sound German and some don't. Does anyone know anything about this? It sounds as if there were tensions between the two groups. Sincerely, Katherine Names researching in Posen: KLOPSCH, JESCHKE, KUBE
25. Re: [PRUSSIA] Origin in Prussia vs. Germany [0.98012]
Don: It's easy to understand how anyone could get confused when the subject is Prussia. I"m new at this genealogy business, myself, but I've found that for a comprehensive - yet quite brief - synopsis of the Prussia "story", click onto Adalbert Goertz's web site at http://oldcolo.com/goertz/faq.prussia.html Good hunting.
