2. Re: [MONTREAL] Friend doesn't want to get lost [1]
For Joanne, My cousin visited Montreal last month, and she was also confused by the directions on the map sites. Most of them seem to refer to Sherbrooke St. as Highway 138, which would confuse even us Montrealers! Depending on whether the address you're going to is 5222 Sherbrooke "West" or "East", you would either go west on Sherbrooke from Peel, or east. The hotel should be able to tell you which direction to go in. It would be a straight drive from start to finish. If you need any further help. fee

5. [MONTREAL] Post 1901 Census -- Debate of Bill S-13 [1]
Greetings All. Even though Bill S-13 - an Act to amend the Statistics Act - was on the schedule for second debate in the House of Commons three days of this past week, it did not happen. The projected schedule for the coming week does not show Bill S-13 as being included. I stand to be corrected, but it begins to look as if no further action on Bill S-13 will happen before Parliament recesses for the summer. If so, this gives us more time to convince our Parliamentarians of the need for amendments to
6. Re: [MONTREAL] Church [1]
Des, I don't think we are talking about the same church here. The St. James Cathedral I refer to was and still is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Greater Montreal. It is known as Basilique-Cathidrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde-St. Jacques (Cathedral Basilica of Mary Queen of the World and St. James) and is located at 1085, rue de la Cathidrale (off boul. Reni Livesque) Montreal. In the earlier days it was referred to by English Catholics as St. James Cathedral. I attended Mass at this church sev

14. [MONTREAL] Ward for St. Andrew Street in 1901 census? [1]
Hello all, I'm trying to help a research contact locate a person who immigrated to Canada in 1900. He went to stay with a relative who was living at 72 Saint Andrew Street. Assuming that he might still have been in that household come time for the 1901 census enumeration, I'm wondering what Ward, etc., I should look at for this address. Does anybody know? I've already tried searching the Ancestry.com database which contains persons in the 1901 census for Ontario & Quebec who were of foreign birth -- bu

Actually, St. George's Anglican church is still on Stanley St., to be exact, betweeen Stanley and Peel (formerly Windsor) adjacent to Place du Canada (formerly Dominion Square). The church at Bishop and Ste Catherine St. is St. James the Apostle, also Anglican. 25. Re: [MONTREAL] ST. JAMES CATHEDRAL [1]
Hi Pat, What denomination are you referring to when you say St. James Cathedral? There's more than one St. James (Cathedral) in Montreal. The one I am familiar with is the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Montreal. The others are of Protestant denominations. When I was growing up in Montreal this church was known as St. James Cathedral; later on, as Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral. check out http://www.ca-catholics.net/churches/montreal/ Dorothy Mather Ottawa ----- Original Message ----- From
