1. Re: Wingohocking Cr. and Fair Hill Meeting [1]
Thanks, Gene-- that pretty much sums all that up. Just one more question or two... Concerning the MASON lots on Lancaster Ave., .5 & 2.5 mi. from Frankfort Cr./the Road to Frankfort, where would be the best place(s) to investigate the 1777 land records, the Germantown Historical Society... (is there a Historical/Genealogical Society specific for that Frankfort Cr./the Road to Frankfort area)? What is/are the address(es)? I would be interested in finding Rotton, Rowton, Roton, Roughton, etc. researchers in Edgefield Co, SC. Nancy Rotton was from Edgefield Co, SC, marrying Marmaduke, son of "Little"John Coate of Newberry Dist, SC and Susannah Ennis, as his second wife. On Monday, Feb 24, 1998 there was a problem between my server and my computer. As a result I lost most of my e-mail that day. If you were trying to contact me, please try again. Thanks, Kay Walton..........kwalton@sonline.com
4. Spellings [1]
Several days ago the comment was made that the wide range of spelling of surnames in 17th and 18th century was due to a high level of illiteracy. I think other areas have to be considered. There was no common spelling until the late 18th century, and there was no accepted dictionary of the English language until the late 18th century. I was looking at some material on my wife's family (Livermore of Maine) and found four spellings of the family name for the first member to come to America (in 1634), and h

7. MORGAN/ROBERTS [1]
Does anyone have access to the Haverford MM records? William MORGAN married Elizabeth ROBERTS 27, 8mo; 1713 at Haverford MM. Do the records state that Elizabeth's surname was ROBERTS and does it mention her parents? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gee Gee Hughes geegee@sure.net
8. Wingohocking Cr. and Fair Hill Meeting [1]
Gene, I am grateful for all you have been doing. You said that Frankford Cr. & Wingohocking Cr. defined the northern border of Northern Liberties; I realize you said that it is paved over & thus does not show on today's maps, but on the 1777 map... Going upstream from the Delaware, Frankford Cr. after about 1.5 mi. divides into 2 branches-- one going due north, and the other continuing northwest to Germantown. Could it be that the northern branch is Frankford Cr., the southern branch being Wingohocking

You might offer to help on Quaker-ROOTS; I have no WOOLLEYs, HOOPESes or YARNALLs in my MASON Tree (that I know of). I just thought I might redirect Candy's message to get the attention of those who are interested in those names. >I can help you with your Yarnalls... >There are people out there who can do a better job of it than I can... but I >can! :) > >Sue Prifogle > > "Water simply flows around obstacles it encounters." 16. Re: MORGAN/ROBERTS [1]
Hi Stewart, Thank you for your answer regarding the surname of Elizabeth ROBERTS, wife of William MORGAN. There seem to be quite a few of us on this list who are descended from this couple, and therefore interested in the discovery of just who Elizabeth was. :) You mention that Robert and Hugh were the sons of Griffith ap Evan. Do you have any further information on Griffith ap Evan or can you perhaps guide us to printed references? >Additional note: An alleged royal descent for this family >can be f
17. Discipline & acknowlegment [1]
Since the Quakers kept such good records I think we know more about the instances of premarital relationships. I have been impressed with what happened after a couple was confronted with the situation. I have come across several instances in my research where acknowlegment was made and the individuals frequently became very active members of the meeting. The records never mention the incident again, and I have had several accounts of these individuals later in life becoming ministers, elders and overseer
18. MASON plots and some Meeting Houses in Philly [1]
Gene, I found a more precise way to locate the MASON lots... But 1st let me make the small point that the map that is misleading is the current map I'm using (a 1993 AAA Road Atlas, with its half-page city map of Philly), not the 1777 map. The current map shows Germantown Ave. ending in North Philly and Erie Ave. beginning to the southeast, with a large gap between. The 1777 map shows the (unnamed) road from Germantown continuous down to the (named) Road to Frankfort (not a typo-- it is spelled Frankford

20. Caleb Pusey Line [1]
I supply the following information about Caleb Pusey. Kay Walton..............kwalton@sonline.com The source is _The Welcome Claimants Proved, Disproved and Doubtful_ by George E. McCracken. Originally published by The Welcome Society of Pennsylvania, 1985. [The article about the Pusey family begins with a list of names with the word `possible' next to each name. Which meant that as far as their research was concerned it was possible that these individuals originally came on the `Welcome'.] "PUSEY, C

>Sarah was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Edge) Bowater. 23. Hicks "split" in Cincinnati [0.975842]
In the process of researching my Quaker Gest family at the Cincinnati History Museum at the Cincinnati Museum Center I copied from the Gest Family Correspondence, 1810-1932 (G3931-RM) some letters and other items of interest. Included was a 17 page document titled 1st Friends Meeting House, Cincinnati, 1815-1878 which is a narrative covering the history of the group during that period (the history begins in 1800 Cincinnati). The Cincinnati Meeting members were also involved in the split and it is de

25. Re: Shinn & Budd [0.975842]
There is an Abigail SHINN married to Joseph BUDD, (lic. 6 Aug 1778), Joseph is son of David BUDD (1712-1760) by his wife Catherine ALLEN (1719-1764). Who were the parents of Abigail? Did she and Joseph have children other than Elizabeth who apparently married an EARL. There is a Joseph SHINN married to Rose BUDD, dau of Thomas BUDD (1645-1698) by his wife Susannah SENIOR (1641-1707). Rose was also married to a WILLIAMS, and to Charles PLUMLEY.
