The Male side of Marriage entry was abstracted under the surname GRIFFITH. A couple of birth records of the subsequent family are abstracted under JOHN surname as children of Griffith JOHN & wife Sarah. There is no male marriage abstract counterpart under surname JOHN. There are about 2-1/4 pages of abstracted entries for surname GRIFFITH so it seems to have been legit surname in this meeting. This all compares with about 1/3 page on LLOYD surname all apparently associated with family you enquired abo

Dear Herbert I have no connection to the Beals family but your explanation on the splits was interesting. While you are right about to those of us who are not well versed in the Quaker doctrine, you have helped folks like me to understand the Quaker history better. Thank you for your time in explaining this issue. Becky Wilson

6. Re: [Q-R] John CARTER/Isabel ATKINSON [1]
I believe we have had some discussion on this topic or something similar a couple of years ago. In my opinion the author of this book is in error. Robert Carter (b.ca.1665, Oxfordshire, ENG) married Lydia Walley in 1688 at Chester MM. He had two sons named John. The 1st was b.1691 & died young. The 2nd was b.1695; he married Isabell Atkinson on 7 4M 1716 (Jun) at Middletown MM, Bucks co,PA. He produced a cert from his MM and the written consent of his parents who were still living. His father Robe

The notes I have say that Joseph refused to go. Betty and 4 of the children went to KY. Joseph and the other 2 stayed in VA. where he died. The notes also say that Betty never saw Joseph again and was buried in KY. This is a book compiled by my husband's aunt so I don't know why Joseph didn't go with them. Karen

12. [Q-R] Judith Wright, Clinton Co., Ohio [1]
I am trying to find the parents of Judith Wright b 5 Jun 1823 in Clinton Co., Ohio. She married David Whitson Cook, a descendant of Isaac Cook and Charity Wright Cook. They were married on May 3, 1840 in Clark Twp., Clinton Co. Soon they moved to Indiana. Since the entire Cook line was Quaker up to that time, I am hoping there will be a record somewhere. I sent off to the Clinton Co. Courthouse for her birth record several years ago and got no response. Do any of you know any Wright lines living in Cli

16. Re: [Q-R] Wright; Mary, Hannah, Lydia (correction) [1]
If you can find it in a local genealogy library, there is a book on Peter, Nicholas and Anthony that gives their genealogy. There was only a small printing of it, 233 copies, many years ago. Also, the genealogy society in Oyster Bay has terrific information. ----- Original Message ----- From: Leslie Hope To: Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2002 11:17 PM Subject: RE: [Q-R] Wright; Mary, Hannah, Lydia (correction) > I said in a previous post that Peter Wr

Hi Stanleys; I am descended from William STANLEY'S younger brother, Strangeman. My line is: Thomas, James, Strangeman, Michael, Josiah, Lindley, Arthur G., Arthur P., Prentice (myself.) Are you familiar with the story of William Stanley as one of the first Conscientious Objectors during the French & Indian War in 1756? Hi Patricia, Judy, and Marsha, Thank you for your responses to my query regarding Charles F. Coffin. Though I am not a direct Coffin descendant I have accumulated quite a bit of information on various lines of descent from progenitor Tristram. I have been unable to identify this Charles F. Coffin's parents. I believe that if I could get their names I could probably link the line from them back to Tristram. I have tried putting his name in various search engines and have found several "Charles Coffin's", n
19. Re: [Q-R] Quakers and the Civil War [1]
I have a number of Brethren families (Mennonite, Moravian, Dunkers), who were also peaceful people. In Indiana, when it came to the draft period of the Civil War, these individuals were forced to join their assigned units or pay money (perhaps $200?) to get out of it. Some people were able to pay substitutes. Since many of the Brethren didn't have this kind of cash lying around their farms, they served. If they survived, they were taken in as members of their churches. The Brethren believe in adult bap

23. [Q-R] 1600s VA- Quaker Beliefs - [1]
Hello Everyone, Since we have been looking at Virginia Quakers I have a query of a different sort .I am in something of a debate with some colleagues/cousins regarding ancestry, children etc of a family that shall remain nameless because I'm an outside observer but I know all the parties. We are talking about Henrico, Surry and Isle of Wight Cos. here. Part of the argument regarding why X could not be the son of Y and furthermore could not marry Z, hinges on the alleged separateness of Quakers due
