1. Re: [QUE-HESSIANS] COUGER/TRIELL [1]
Hello Claude, "Tschuess" means "mach's gut, good bye - so having read that at the end of your message in French, I honestly believe you addressed your posting to me, eh? But unfortunately, all I can make out is the name of Peter TRIELL, and Hesse-Darmstadt. What the connection is to the rest is not clear to me. There was a DRILL/TRILL, Konrad, born appr. 1762/63 in Langen, which is only a few miles from Darmstadt, Hessen, and this young drummer boy with the Hanau Regt. Erbprinz did miss the boat home in
2. Re: [QUE-HESSIANS] Re: Schinck - Schenck. [1]
Hello Claude, thank you for your contribution in respect to my posting of the name SCHENCK. Since I do not read or write French, I don't know what you wrote, but not waiting for some kind soul to translate what you yourself could have translated, I would like to make it clear, that the names SCHENCK and SCHRECK are two distinctly different names in German. None has to do with the other. To make it also clear to you, I am encouraging the use of French on the list, but mail to me personally should be in Ger

Bonjour ` tous (in english just after for John) Ayant acquis une maison de campagne dans le village de Lotbinihre l'automne dernier, je m'intiresse ` son histoire et j'ai dicouvert que quelques allemands avaient vicus dans ce coin de pays et j'aimerais les situer chez les Hessois. 4. [QC-HESSIANS] Klaerle, Jacob, Hesse-Hanau Regt. Erbprinz [1]
Hello Quebec-Hessians: Ludwig Barck put this on the AMREV-HESSIANS list, although this Hanau soldier never left Quebec. What is really interesting to me on a personal level, is the fact that he was the brother of one of my own ancestors, Jacob's sister Catharina Elizabeth Klaerle, born 21.Aug. 1750. I have never found out if Jacob married in Quebec and if, did he have any children? Would be nice to know. Cheers, John Merz. From: "Ludwig Barck" Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2003 4:14 PM >

Merci Claude Thanks John Il y a des indices l` qui valent la peine d'jtre investiguis plus ` fond ` partir des documents originaux, ce que je vais faire et vous revenir avec plus d'informations j'esphre. I think it's worth the effort to investigate further by consulting the original documents. There is maybe a link between these 2 guys. I'll come back with more answers soon...I hope! ----- Original Message ----- From: Jean-Paul HUBERT Sent: Saturday, June 28, 2003 2:06 AM Subject: Amable Hervieux married 1785 to Friedrich FAUST. Hello John: Now, in chronological order: - 10 Nov 1784: birth & bapt. of Jean-Baptiste FAOUST, son of son of Frederic and Marie Amable HERVIEUX, in Lanoraie {so, 'normally' Frederic must have married before that date ...] - 10 Apr 1787: birth & bapt. of Marie Amable FORSTE, dau of Frederic FORSTE and Marie Amable ARVIEUX, in Lanoraie, with a note that says:
8. [QC-HESSIANS] Décès de Félix Hartung ? [1]
There is a Felix Hatton buried at the Quebec City English Cathedral (Holy Trinity), June 19 1794 (Quebec City non-catholic index). This is not our Felix Hartung though, as he was present and signed his children's marriage records at St-Roch-des-Aulnaies and La Malbaie between 1806 and 1823. Dear Frank; just checking my in-box I find your posting re DOENGES. Virginia DeMarce, not having had the Hanau Hetrina records at the time of publishing her book, was not too sure about the Hanau soldiers, and called him Gernhard, but his full name was actually Bernhard (Barney in short).DOENGES. He was actually one who was born in Hanau directly. As to the place he settled after he was discharged in Quebec (probably at Montreal), he applied for land and got 200 acres near Cornwall, Upper Canada. He did ma
10. [QUE-HESSIANS] Brunswick soldier Jacob BECKER, in Lunenburg, N.S. and Quebec. [1]
Hello Hessian researchers; Our new member Ludwig Barck comes with a posting which seems to clear up a long-standing issue. He found the baptism of a child performed by a Feldprediger (Army chaplain) in January 1782 in St-Francois (probably the one on Ile D'Orleans?) father Jacob Beker, who really is Jakob BECKER of the Brunswick light infantry (Battalion v. Barner), mother Anna Maria Glattenbergen. Here is what I had so far on this soldier, and I published it in my book "The Hessians of Nova Scotia" page

14. [QUE-HESSIANS] Hanau Jaeger Johann Justus BERGSTRAESSER [1]
Hello Quebec researchers, According to Hetrina VI, and Virginia DeMarce, in July 1783 was discharged from the Hesse-Hanau Chasseur Corps, one Johann Justus BERGSTRAESSER. The earlier researcher Debor called him Julius 'Berghalser' Fact is that I could not find any trace of him in any of the records I have searched, and I wonder whether he even stayed in Canada. He was born in Darmstadt appr. 1730/31, quite old for a soldier. Any additional information would be appreciated. Cheers, John Merz
15. [QUE-HESSIANS] Brunswick soldier Jacob BECKER, in Lunenburg, N.S. and Quebec. [1]
Denis, thank you for the corrections, at times the dates are confusing, but in this case like the birth on 1/12, and the baptism on 3/12, there is no doubt that the month December is the correct one. This opens up a new question - you found this data between burials ? What does that mean, did the child die? Curious, John (btw. another new e-mail address for you?) 17. Re: [QUE-HESSIANS] Re: Schinck - Schenck. [1]
Dear Claude, in addition to my reply to yours a few minutes ago, the Henry SCHENCK the lady wanted to know about, is the Hesse-Hanau Jaeger Henrich Schenk, born 1755/56 in Gelnhausen (a famous city where even some of my own tribe originates), and he was discharged in May 1783 in Quebec, and married 24. Nov. 1788 at Chateauguay to Felicite Cliche. Virginia DeMarce in her book "German Military Settlers in Canada" wrote about him, and I am a bit surprised that you don't seem to have that information. Cheers, J

Hello Norma, what a surprise to hear from you. Yes I will correct my PDF and enter your husband's name as THE descendant. I also wrote an e-mail to Ulrich Munstermann, because I want him to answer one question clearly - who is the father of the Johann Henrich Henss born in 1773. Probably a brother of our Johann Henrich. One more thing I would like to stress - those Hessians could read and write and each one had his bible in his packsack. Also - there got to be a marriage recorded between him and Victoire P

Hello Serge, thanks for the copy of the Brunswick Archives letter of 19.06.2002, which I printed out for my files. This Pastor Kohle is a real mystery, but he existed! Proof: He is mentioned in the Memoirs of Major General Riedesel in the Index as having been mentioned on pages ii and 272, but I can't find the page ii, and page 272 says - Regiment Specht - 23. Chaplain Kohle, unknown. (meaning not known what happened ti him after the war) He is also mentioned in the Journal of J.F. Wasmus, German Company

Hello Ludwig, thanks for this information, Carl SCHAMMEL, a Dragoon in the Brunswick Dragoon Regiment, born in Gummern/Saxony (now 29493 Schnackenburg in Lower Saxony/Niedersachesen), was married in a hurry by his army chaplain, because his bride was about to give birth. A baptism has been recorded on 16. April 1782 in L'Assomption, child was Marie-Claire Chambel. Actually, we talked about this couple on this list on May 21, 2003. Bonjour, Je me souviens d'avoir vu une information concernant Johann Wagner, ipoux d'Elisabeth Paul (mariage le 19.02.1790 Holy Trinity Anglican church, Quibec).
