1. [RAGSDALE-L] Abner Ragsdale [1]
Anyone looking for information on Abner Ragsdale? I believe he is my gggg-grandfather, but all I have is circumstantial evidence. In 1819, Able Ragsdale gets married and Andrew gives surety for him. In 1821, Andrew Ragsdale gets married and Able gives surety for him. They marry sisters in Williamson County, TN. On the 1820 census, Able and his young bride are living alone. There are 4 Ragsdale families on the 1820 census that have a male of the right age bracket that Andrew should be. They are

I'd love a copy Bill, if it's not too much trouble. I know you can't send jpegs through Rootweb, but my home address should work just fine. I'm trying to hire a researcher in the Shelby county area to do some courthouse research for me on the Pollard family. If I hit paydirt, I'll make sure to return the favor and send you copies. Thanks. Kathy Bowlin ----- Original Message ----- From: "searchers" To: Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2003 5:02 PM Subject: RE: [RAGSD
3. Re: [RAGSDALE-L] Frances Ragsdale [1]
Arleta, Frances was probably the daughter of Richard Ragsdale and his first wife, Rebecca Pollard. She appears in some legal documents (exactly which ones I don't remember off the top of my head) with him in Montgomery Co., IN. Richard lived in Madison Co., KY until abt. 1820-5 and moved to Montgomery Co., IN. He was probably the son of Joseph Ragsdale (unnamed in Peter's Joseph's Will -- Item I give to my son [no name was written here] Ragsdale One Negro girl named Jude which is in his possession to

5. [RAGSDALE-L] DNA? [1]
I am just curious.....have any of the male descendants with the Ragsdale name been part of the DNA project that is currently underway for some other surnames? My husband participated in the Bolling one, and it verified all of my documentation as to which branch his ancestor descended from. I had it well documented, but it was nice to have it verified by DNA. I know the science isn't perfect, but it's a nice starting point. Just wondering. Can you fill us in on more about the testing? Who to contact more about it or where to call? Thanks Mari
7. Re: [RAGSDALE-L] ELIJAH RAGSDALE & MARY KENNEDY [1]
I am not a Ragsdale Family descendant, However I have very good and true friend who lives in Denison,TX who is 94 years young. She has the Elijah Pearce book and contributed to the publishing of it. Elijah Ragsdale was the only surviving child or member of the family at the Indian raid in Jamestown, Virginia in the 1600's all his family were murdered in the massacre and other neighbors and friends took him in and raised him. He later inherited the family land. There is a children's hospital care unit locat

Welcome back home! I'm not researching these days, so I am getting lots of emails that I'm just deleting. Please remove me from the list. Thanks!
9. [RAGSDALE-L] Jane Ragsdale Williams Justus [1]
Thanks for your reply to my quiery. With the HARNAGE name, I was able to go to Ancestry.com and found the data that you'd entered. I do have the names of JANE & WILLIAM WILLIAMS' children. I also have the names of the JUSTUS children. Anyone interested? Also, does anyone know where in North Carolina JOHN RAGSDALE and NELLIE HARNAGE was born? Jo Bennett
10. Re: [RAGSDALE-L] Abner Ragsdale [1]
I have wondered if Abner was my gg-grandfather and the father of my Hiram Ragsdale b 1815/16. I am fairly certain that the Mary on 1840 Williamson Co census was Hiram's mother. Her dwelling was between Hiram's and that of Elcany Johnson whose wife was Sarah Ragsdale who I believe was Hiram's sister. I base that on the Milly Ragsdale b 1800 with Mary on the 1850. She was living with Elcany and Sarah's son on later census after her mother Mary had died. In those days, nephews took in their aunts when they gre

Hello Charlotte: I had correspondence with one ot the Authors you have inquired about whose name is June Hart Wester. A letter that I have from her is Dated 4 March 1985. She had copies of the book you asked about at that time. But I suspect by now it is out of print. Although I could be wrong. Mrs. Wester mentioned in her letter that the Georgia State Archives has Mrs. Van Leer's collection of Correspondence and research and some large lineage charts. Prior to that time Mrs. Van Leer had been rese

15. [RAGSDALE-L] Lawrence County, Arkansas [1]
Does anyone know the parents of JANE RAGSDALE who was b ca 1815 in North Carolina? Jane first marries WILLIAM WILLIAMS on 24 May 1835 in Lawrence County, Arkansas. After WILLIAM WILLIAMS died in 1841, Jane married STEPHEN JUSTUS (9 March 1843 in Lawrence County, Arkansas). To the best of my knowledge, there were 6 children from her first marriage and 5 children from her last one. Jane died after 1852 and by 1860. It looks as if the RAGSDALES came to Lawrence County before 1840 and after 1830.
16. Re: [RAGSDALE-L] ELIJAH RAGSDALE & MARY KENNEDY [1]
Joanne, You may be correct about it being Godfrey. But the thing is my 94 year young friend descends from both of them. I have not had a Ragsdale conversation with her lately but some of the Ragsdale women married in to the very old old and notable Camp Family that I have ties to. Don't know any of their first names but they are recorded as being married to the Camps in the Elijah or Godfrey Ragsdale Book. Have been so busy working on my other family lines I haven't revisited the Ragsdale Families in some
17. [RAGSDALE-L] OLIVER RAGSDALE [1]
Sarah: Yes, I woud like to have your information on Jesse and Susan. I have some of it, through the census of Ar. and the article that is in GOODSPEED on their son, Jerry(Jeremiah) M. Ragsdale. It sounds as if in the Goodspeed article that Jesse is buried in Perry Co. On most of the census records it has the named spelled Ragsdale, but in Goodspeed it was Ragsdill. My line spells it Ragsdale. I will give you as much as I have . Sarah Jane daughter of Oliver m. Moses Brazil in Perry Co. They lived ther
18. [RAGSDALE-L] Cornelius Creed [1]
I happened across the name Cornelius Creed in the 1790 census of Cumberland Co., NC and remembered that there was both a Cornelius Ragsdale and a Creed Ragsdale (supposed to have been father and son) in Giles Co., TN in 1830. I thought Cornelius Creed might be of interest to someone researching that family. Cornelius was a lone male 16+ years old. The census is in alphabetical order (more or less), so there's no information on neighbors. There's a transcription in the Cumberland Co., NC GenWeb Archive

They married in Lawrence Co., AR in 1847. Since your Mary was also born in KY and moved to IN. I thought there might be a family connection. 23. [RAGSDALE-L] Descending from Godfrey to RASDALL [1]
Hello-- I've been lurking on the Ragsdale list waiting for a hint or a familiar name. My Ragsdales became RASDALLs in south-central KY sometime after the turn of the 19th century. Howdy, all! The mention of a Jane Ragsdale b. 1815 NC, got my attention. I'm searching for a D.A.B. Ragsdale (known as both David and Alexander) b. 1812 NC, his spouse and their ancestry. Jane may have been a younger sister. Alexander married an Elizabeth (unk) and they are found in Bedford Co. TN 1850 census (along with a Jane age 53 who may have been his mother)..., with my gr-grandfather D.A. Ragsdale age 6. They moved to AR about 1850-52, where they are found in Pike Co. in the 1860 census (J
25. [RAGSDALE-L] Ragsdale [1]
Bill Berry wrote asking about Jesse Ragsdale and descendents. Mrs. Skelton on pg 24 gives Jesse as the son of Benjamin Ragsdale and Martha Jones being born about 1742 at Prince George co, VA which is very close to your about 1745 VA. She also gives him Married to Margaret Glenn but includes that they married at Anderson Co. SC. She also gives the same information that he died in White co., TN ca 1827. Then she states that known children were Joshua Ragsdale and Martha who married Levi Jarvis. No furth
