Hi, Does anyone know anything about the name Elon? There is an Elon College in Alamance Co., NC (Cut from Orange Co. in 1849). Who was its namesake? The name appears to be a given name -- never a surname. There was also an Elon Baptist Church in Darlington, SC. According to one website, the name means "God loves me." Jordan Ragsdale, according to census records, was born in Tennessee and lived for a brief time in Missouri in the early 1840's before settling down in Obion County, Tennessee. Hi, In going through old records, I found a brother of one of may ancestors, James K.P. Smith. I ran across the name James K.P. Graves a few weeks later. I wondered if there was a relationship between the families. Since that time, I have run across the given name James K.P. at least a dozen times in a half a dozen different places -- Missouri, Arkansas, Indiana, etc. Does anyone know what the K.P stands for? or who these people are named after?
