Peggy,
So glad that was helpful!
Jill :]
Thank you, Jill, for sharing this -- it further supports what our
research has shown about these families. If they weren't connected
before they left North Carolina, the families did 'connect' later on
through marriage.
To add a little more information on the connections in this group of
families: My gggrandparents were Unity (BAILEY) and John RAINS. Unity
was a sister to Leasy (BAILEY), married to Berry STRICKLAND, Nancy
(BAILEY), married to Martin RAPER, and to Jesse BAILEY, married to
Mahala
Can you better identify your John Rains, the son of ? I have so many John
Rains but not the other family members mentioned in these two emails. I
would like to try and connect them if you have more data on your John.
Thanks
David Raines

Hi Jill,
I am behind several hundred e-mails and missed your 3/31/2004 query
concerning Sarah Rains Nichols in RAINS-D Digest V04 #32. I beleive the
following refers to her husband John Nichols:
From Chancery Suits Caroline Co., Virginia: "Catlett, Samuel J.
and William Tignor vs legatees of Giles Raines. Samuel Jones
Catlett, executer, and Elizabeth Dowles, executrix of the last will
of Ann Rains, decd., and Ann Dowles, an infant, by Samuel Jones
Catlett her next friend against Giles Raine
I found these 2 marriage records, hope they help someone.
Delilah RAINS married Jesse Thomas 2 Jan. 1831
Sarah RAINS married Noah Langley 3 Jan. 1820
These were in Hall County, Georgia

Dear listers,
I found this today and thought it might be helpful to some Rains researcher.
From the "Cherokee County Heritage" Jan. 1973 issue Vol. II No. I page 44
"There was quite a large group in the little colony that left North Carolina
and settled in Cherokee County, Alabama in 1837. They were all related or
connected by marriage and all came from England to Virginia about the same time
it is thought. The group included: Kader & wife Aunath WOODARD & three
children; his mother, Mary Elizabet
If the person who is reportedly descended from Rowsey Rains, b. 1815 in
Stafford Co., Virginia represented by DNA kit no. 14172, in Melva's DNA chart does
not mind sharing their identity with me, would you please contact me off the
Rains list. I have some information which I believe will interest you.
