Confederate General Stephen Douglas Ramseur participated in the Battle of Chancellorsville and fought valiantly. General Ramseur is wounded at the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse where he had fought with southern soldiers. In 1864 Ramseur accompanied General Early into the Shen- andoah Valley of Virginia. They battled long and hard to drive the enemy from this rich and fertile region.

Carol, I don't have anything about the Duckworth line but I do have a lot about the Ramsour line. David Wilfong Ramsaur b. 13 Nov 1816 was son of Capt John Ramsour b. 19 Dec 1770 and Elizabeth Shuford b 5 Nov 1774. Capt John Ramsour fought in Battle of New Orleans/war of 1812. He was the son of Jacob Ramsour and Ann Carpenter. Jacob was one of two sons with progeny of pioneer Dietrich Ramsour. I descend from the other son, David. Confederate General Stephen Dodson Ramseur was severe- ly wounded during the Battle of Malvern Hill. On the 1st of November in 1862, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. General Ramseur once again took the field during their Battle fo Chancellorsville. He is wounded again during this engagement.

Great News for Ramsour/Ramseur/Ramsaur Descendents! A piece of history will be made this coming June 11, 2005, and you can be a part of it. The Lincoln County (NC) Historic Properties Commission has arranged to acquire the property on which the Ramsour-Reinhardt Cemetery is located. Jacob Ramsour and pioneer Dietrich Ramsauer are buried there. Henceforth the cemetery will be maintained and preserved and will be out of the hands of private landowners. William Bolton Ramsower was married twice. First wife Mary Rowell (m. March 18, 1858) died and he married her sister, my grgrma, Caroline Rowell (b. abt. 1841, m.Dec 16, 1861, d.abt. 1907). Confederate General Stephen Dodson Ramseur is promoted a Major General the day after his twenty-seventh birthday. He was the youngest West Pointer to attain the rank of a major general in the Confederate Army. At the Battle of Cedar Creek on the 19th of October 1864 General Ramseur, participated in the initial Confederate success.
