As promised I took many pictures in Alsace relating to Reeb places.
Kestastel, Zutzendorf, Breitenbach, Steig, Dambach la Ville, Chatenois &
others. The subjects are ruined castles , churches, street scenes and
panoramic where topography permitted. Advise me as to the village and
pictures you want, number and your address. The price will be my cost of
making prints. For instance I have 15 pictures concerning Zutzendorf of
which five are better quality. So if you want five you'll get the best and

A very excited Welcome! to Richard Rapp.
As most if not all of you are aware, the Keskastel Reeb family is very close
to my own heart and years ago it was the family of Theobald REEB and the
mention of him in the 1909 History of Butler County which served as the key
to my own REEB ancestors in the Alsace Bossue region. Also, as I have told
Richard already, I think I could fill in an almost complete family unit sheet
on the family of Henry and Lavinia Goehring REEB/RAPE but this was my first

Dear Pablo
Welcome to the REEB family list. I'm descended from Gustavus Reeb,
the part of the family that eventually changed the spelling to RAPE. My
group lived in Springfield, Illinois area. The last couple of weeks have
been very interesting reading on the list. I've had my grandchildren here
for a visit and have not been online much. (Understandable, as they are 3
and almost 2 years old!) My daughter needed a few days without them, so I
brought them home with me. They live in San Diego Cal

Gail,
Thanks for your welcome to Barbara Bizani and also for your well wishes to
me. Yes, Caroline was born 17 Aug. 1855 in Keskastel to Johann Friedrich
REEB and Catharina REEB. There was some confusion before, I think because of
the language change from French back to German before Caroline & Peter Quirin
were married. There was a mention in the Harskirchen record that it was
filed both in Keskastel and Harskirchen.
I know that I told you about having received the wonderful pictures from Mrs.

Can someone tell me if Catharina Magdalena was married to a Nicolaus Reeb
b. abt 1785 in Keskastel? Was he the son of Johann Georg b. 1755? If so,
did he have a brother named Johann Adam b.1786? Does this all connect to
Sophia Reeb Ifft and how?

John,
>From 1764 there were four different lordships that owned Dehlingen and the
other villages. The counts of Salm had approximately half. From 1751 their
capitol was Bandenviller. Before 1751 their holdings were owned jointly
with the Duke of Lorraine. Their castle was on top of the Vosges Mt.
overlooking their silver mines in the head waters of the Bruche River in
Alsace.
Multiple ownership's of villages was common through out Alsace, particularly
before the 17th century.

Mike:
Besides the record that I told you I had copied from the Lorentzen Churchbook
there is the mention in Dr. Gerhard Hein's "Luth. Kirchenbuch, Bockenheim 17
Jahr Hundr." that mentions Peter REB, of Voellerdingen whose son Peter died
26 June 1670 at age 13 years "in Dossenheim."
Trudy Schenk gave me a little different but, I think, a more interesting
translation...but she did not mention Dossenheim. Maybe it is only
coincidental since the day and month are the same, but the year and the name

Dear Dona,
The following is from Postroff, Moselle, FR civil records from 1789 to 1823:
10 Sept 1797 Jean Nicolaus Adam 23, farmer, son of Sebastian Reeb and
Christina Klein all from Postroff married Barbe Reeb (Reb) daughter of Henri
Reeb, farmer and Elisabeth Walk, living at Dehling, Bas Rhin. J. Nicolaus
Adam born 8 April 1774 at Postroff and Barbe Reeb born 5 March 1775 at
Dehling. This is what the record said, but Dr.Hein gives the birth date 4
March 1776. I would go with the researcher Dr. Hein.

But as an American with German roots you might either feel as an American

long as you personaly stick to behave like a German, but the longer you
