Hi Kelly, I had the same thing happen in December. I sent for the
death certificate, but with the holidays, I didn't get all the mail to
happen within 30 days. So when the death certificate arrived in Jan, I
sent a copy, along with the letter that SS sent me, asked them to be
generous and please send the SS application. I really hate to have to
start the process all over and wait another 4 months (plus I'd have to

I have several very old newspaper clippings that are on the verge of
falling apart. I was thinking about gluing them to acid-free
scrapbook pages while they are still more or less intact. If this
sounds reasonable, any particular glue preferable? Any different

You might ask another funeral home in the area that has been there a
long time what happened to their records. You might also check with
any historical or genealogical societies in the area they may even
have the records themselves. In Houston our library has records from
some old funeral homes so it is worth a try...Just some suggestions..

Since I live in MASS, for a lark and to see if I could do it, I searched for
the 1836 Muscatine Co. Iowa Territorial Census that gave me Iowa names of
which I knew none. I then, placed these last names in the Ancestry.com
search for any potential civil war soldiers. I want you to know I have come
up with 23 soldiers of families names starting with A's that apparently
still remained in the Muscatine Co. in the 1860's.
I plan on to go through the census as far as I can. Since I have no one who
