I am posting to the list, since reburials happen more often that one

In the case of Smith Mountain lake, on the border of
Franklin/Bedford/Pittsylvania counties (in Virginia), the local utility
company was the prime agency responsible for the move of many gravesites

study/records, which spanned several years. The actual removals were
handled by one of the local funeral homes, who also maintained records
of what they did.

Need a little information on how to go about this. In 1889, Tom Cowart
murdered Newton Rowe in Winston County, Alabama. Would this be on any
records, if so what records would I look for and where would I find them? I
have no idea where to start looking or what to look for, but surely there
would be some record somewhere.
Thanks

Are California and Cook County, Illinois vital records available for

I know at one time they were available in Calif, but do not know if they
still are.
Thank you,

When you send for vital records, and they send your application back, keep
trying. I have sent for records and had them respond saying that they did
not have these records. I ignore it and send again, and again. And
finally, someone would get off of their rear-end and open a file cabinet and
actually look. Finally, I would get the records in the mail. Everytime
they tell me they do not have the record, I always try about 4 or 5 times
again and again. If after about 5 tries they continue to say that th
I can certainly sympathize with anyone who has lost his
files while working on these programs.
While being very new at this, I recently was working on my FTM
trying to figure out (without readiing the manual) how to do a
backup. Suddenly I had NO files. For a couple of weeks, I slowly
re-entered my information (formerly 400 names).
One day while clicking on the File area I came across my missing
names. I still haven't a clue how I accomplished this (still
haven't read the manual yet), but now that I ha

They keep the money in AL also. I go to the AL Archives and look up the
person on the Death Index - and the certificate number. When they tell me
they don't have it, I give them the certificate number - and amazingly, they
find it.

Hi,
I don't know if this info will help in your situation but since I knew where
the final resting place was, however...
I had a great grandfather who was moved from one cemetery to another one in a
different town where his wife was buried some 50 years later. Both
cemeteries had a record of it.
On the other side of the family my grandparents had a parent and two
grandparents moved to the family lot to keep things tidy. It certainly helps
from a genealogy standpoint to have everyone together
Everytime I've sent for vital records from the dept of health in Ohio, PA,
and KY, if the records were not found, the $10 fee was ALWAYS returned.
This $10 is payment for a certified copy, NOT payment for their time in
researching. If there's no certified copy, there's no charge. And you can
get an uncertified copy for much less. I forget the amount as I always get
a certified copy.

Mark,
I just updated from FTM 3 to FTM 7. I did have some problems, could not get
the program to load...called FTM. they provided me the information I needed
to get the program loaded with no loss of files. I might add they were great
at the tech center and glad to help me out.....no problems since.

I have not saved most of the civil war information that has come across
the list because I did not know I might need it later (duh). Just this
week I got a family history questionnaire back and it indicated that I
am looking for the Blair family of Mt. Bethel Va. Any information on
Virginia Civil War records would be greatly appreciated and this time I
won't delete!!
Thanks for the help

I'd like to know if there is a way of doing this short of what I've been
doing. I have literally hundreds of genealogy e-mails that I have saved in
my AOL personal filing cabinet. I have created categories with file names
and e-mails stored in each. In some file folders I have sub-folders. The
only way I can figure to save them to disk where they are easily opened and
accessed is to save each e-mail in a word processing file (I use Word) and
then save them either in folders on a zip disk or on the
In trying to locate my grandfather's naturalization papers (from New
York City, no less) I tried to obtain my grandfathers passport
application from 1923 only to be stymied to find out that he renewed it
in 1926 for which there are no indexes that I know of. My question is,
how much information do I actually need to send to the INS in order to
find his naturalization papers. I have his naturalization date, his
birthday and his birthplace. Do I have enough to do a search for his
naturalization papers? Any he
You can't always get an uncertified copy. Each state has their own rules I
guess. I sent $20 to Washington for 2 death certs and they called me saying
the price had gone up to $13 each so I needed to send an additional $6. I
thought about uncertified copies and asked about that. The response was "we
do not do that, they must be certified." I put a notice out to a couple
lists that I am on to see if anyone living in that area would be willing to
look them up for me and someone responded that they would.
Microsoft Word can wrap text around an object. I don't remember exactly
when the feature was added but it was well before the Office 97 version.
Some of the more full-featured genealogy programs allow you to create
wonderful reports, complete with pictures and lots of text you add in as you
would in a word processing program. That's another option, especially if
you don't want to purchase lots of software. For example, I have Ultimate
Family Tree and can do everything you described with that program. I
I hope everyone on the list has a very wonderful Thanksgiving.

If you can't find it, keep digging. You will eventually fill that hole.

Hi List,
Does anyone know who keeps records in cases of cemetary
reburials. Is is strictly the cities and local towns or does the state
get in on it. I am referring to a reburial around 1900. The people were
moved from a church who decided they did not want the cemetary there any
more. They were reburied somewhere in the city.
Any response please reply to:

My deceased mother was able to obtain a passport in the 1970's even though
she did not have a birth certificate. The place where she was born in 1917
burned down and all the records were lost. I do not know how she obtained a
passport. Is a passport a valid register of birth for genealogical purposes?
Does anyone know if there is some way to receive a copy of someone's
passport application? If so, where would I write and had anyone had any luck
with this?
Thanks.
