this book. I will take a look and post to the list if I find anything.

Hello everyone:
CAUTION!!!!! PLEASE NOTE THE MESSAGE FROM PAT QUOTED BELOW! PLEASE DO
NOT OPEN UP THE MESSSAGE I SENT LAST NIGHT ON THE DESCENDANTS OF JAMES
AND JESSE RHEA!!!
I apologize to Pat for shutting her down -- I didn't realize there was a
limit to how much info I could send in one message -- it was not an
attachment, but a print-out of names, dates, places, for four
generations of the known descendants of JAMES RHEA and his son, JESSE
RHEA of Blount and Monroe Counties, TN. I'm very new to R
I have also heard that perhaps headrights were sometimes given more than
once for the same person. Land was granted to the person who paid for
the transportation of people. Looking some other headrights, it would
appear that sometimes a person went back to England (or whereever) and
when/if the person came back to America again and the person who paid got
headrights.

A close examination of this list of contributors, as compared with the list of
members who built the Tinkling Spring log meeting house a quarter of a century

I would like to know if anyone has any web addresses for some Rhea sites.
I have found just about everything else on the net.......but would really
like to find more information on my Rhea line. I will accept
anything......personal homepages....URL's........organizations dealing with
this line.......just anything that I can go to and look at. I really
appreciate all the information I have obtained from this list......even
connected with some relatives through this list. I thank anyone in advance

Well I have been chasing my Ray family all over the states of Tennessee,
Missouri,Arkansas, and Illinois.
Found out that my grandfather changed the spelling of the name. So now I
will chase the REAs for a while. The Simeon listed below is (I believe) the
same as my greatgrandfather SIMON REA/RAY born in Illinois in 1857 to
parents from the state of Tennessee.Have traced SIMON's family and the
family of his brother ROBERT TAYLOR RAY from Illinois to Missouri to Arkansas.
Have been told that some REAs came to

For those interested in the parentage of Worth S. Ray, the 1787 personal

A woman was allowed her dower (rights) in the estate of her deceased
husband - this went back to old Virignia laws and that back to English
laws. She was to receive 1/3 of her husband's estate, real estate and

Martha and probably some others have quite a bit on this branch of the
Rhea family. Hopefully some of the info below will help complete the
picture of this line. This info did not come from the book called History
of Old Tennent but from a file in the back room of the Gloucester County
History Society's library on Hunter Street in Woodbury, NJ. This little
library is terrific and I've found some terrific stuff there over the
years.By the way, I called a library today and got the proper name of

Dear Pat and all Rhea-L subscribers: At last I have found a connection.
Thanks to the research of Charla in New Jersey, my family line has been
extended several generations. I'm so excited that I must share with all of
you. My John R. Rhea was born June 30, 1762. He was the son of John Rhea and
Mary Smith Rhea, daughter of Samuel Smith and Mary Harrison. The children of
John and Mary Smith Rhea are listed with their birthdays and baptism dates.
Also, the date of death of this fourth great grandfather

Today I received the following from one of my genealogist friends in
Monroe Co., TN. It's from an unpublished manuscript of Worth S. Ray,
who was the author of the book, TENNESSEE COUSINS.
I don't know the source of my friend's information, but it is a typed
manuscript, obviously authored by Worth S. Ray. Handwritten at the top
of the page is [14]. The title of the page is " Col. Charles M.
McGhee's Big Island - Rays and Morrows."
I quote directly from a photocopy of the manuscript:
