There has been alot of discussion on the John Ray/Wray/Rhea, etc line
and thought I'd throw in another Rhea. I had been working on this
family 20 years ago, but gave up after encountering so many Joseph
Rea/Rhea's. But with the internet access I am trying again. I am
trying to connect my Joseph Rea/Rhea etc to Moses Rhea of Warren County.
My Joseph was born in 1807 or 1808 in TN, and lived in Grundy Co, Tn
until his death in approximately 1852. Grundy Co, I believe was formed
from Warren County. Joseph
I do find the reference to the surname Lockhart interesting because Dicey
Ray Perkins, daughter of Aaron Ray and granddaughter of John Rae/Ray and
Mary Bolon, gives a Ruth Lockhart as her friend and her husband, William
Gantt Perkins lists Benjamin Lockhart as his friend in 1870. Probably
just coincidental but who knows.

Hello, I have a Looney association also. Not on my Ray side tho.
I have Mary A. LOONEY married Eugene O. (or Eugene E.) PRATT.
Their son, Oscar E. Pratt married Margaret Lucy Daniels. They are

Thanks, Marie LC

Hello Johnita and Ray researchers., I was over at Genforum reading some of

Yes, I believe that we did. I cannot say who this Dicy Ray was. Too bad
the record didn't give her husband's name. Or the name of her son.
I did note with interest that the name Gibson and Riggs showed up
frequently. I am researching some Gibsons and Riggs families in Delaware
and in fact, cannot figure out where they went.

Hi,
You are correct that the Matthew who married Mary Looney should be the

Thanks for correcting it. Larry is the only one who is enabled to change

Okay, I am working on the new web page for Rhea. It is titled The Rhea

I'll send you the URL when I get more to see
We have a guestbook and a counter for the page.

In the RAY-RHEA book by Joseph C. Rhea, Jr., 1969, Chapter III, Page 21,
reference is given to "The Other Joseph" who came to this country around
1790 and settled in Washington, Co., VA. When he arrived, his name was
"Ray," but he changed it to "Rhea" on the advice of a school teacher who
informed him that "in this part of the country we spell the name R-h-e-a."
The index lists sixteen descendants named Joseph. Besides the William who
was mentioned in Notable Southern Families, Robert Rhea, the brother

Johnita, It is intresting to me that this branch of the family is in Warren
Cty before 1820,as was my branch Abner and Alsey Rea. On the Baptist Church
roll the name is spelled Rhea. My family wound up in Franklin County
Illinois along with Abner's brother Wilson Rea. Another Rea branch was also
in Franklin County at that time which remains a mystery to me. That is my
greatgreatgrandfather Robert Rea who married Abner's daughter Charity
Rea.Wilson and Abner are the sons of William Collings Rea who was the s

I went to the site of the The Colonel David Looney Chapter and noticed that it states that Polly
Looney married Matthew Rhea IV, instead of Matthew Rhea V. I'm sure it's just a typo but thought
you'd like to know.

Well, if John isn't Looney (Luna)'s father, then I'm back where I was 10 years ago. I have never seen any real evidence of Luna's father. Kathleen Pennington thought that John had two sets of children by different wives, but that was speculation.
Did you see Pat Hall's Aug 3rd message on duplicate death records ? Maybe a similar explanation applies to duplicate marriage records in different counties.

I've finally determined that Louis/Lewis Ray, b. cApr 1793, Patrick Co.,
VA., who is the granduncle of Andrew Houston Perkins must be the son of
Aaron Ray/Rae/Rhea/Rea and brother of Dicey Ray. Aaron was the son of
John Rae/Rhea/Ray of Warren Co., TN.
I don't know where this Lewis/Louis Ray went but maybe he was somewhere
in Illinois later. Any ideas?
