2. [RHEA] Re: Rhea Family of Maryland [1]
Here is what I show for the Dorchester Rheas. This is an old record of mine. I show a differed wife's maiden name, but unfortunately I do not show the source of the information on this line. I would be interested in how this compares with the information of other researchers. ED FOLEY 1. William RHEA born 1793, Scotland, married Elizabeth WHEATLEY, born 1811, died 2-Aug-1871. William died 24-Jul-1869, Dorchester Co. MD. A school record from Dorchester Co., MD school #2, district #8 for the period

Pat...I don't know how I have missed your messages before, although my computer has been in the shop being overhauled. I belong to the Rhea list because I have a 'missing' great aunt, Sarah Creech Rhea in Blount Co., TN who died a long time ago and I can't fit in. Her death certificate claims she was the daughter of my great grandparents, but she's not on any of the census in Hawkins and Hamblen Counties where she should have been as a child, so she's my mystery relative and I keep hoping to pick up a clu

9. RE: [RHEA] Ray, Rhea, Weller, Hennegar [1]
Pat, Eliza J. Rhea is the daughter of the John Rhea, listed in the Greene County 1830 census. Mary Rhea (Age 20) is her sister. According to family lore, Uriah Mathews managed the Stagecoach Inn at that time. I have some information on this specific Rhea family, although I have never been able to trace her father (John Rhea) further back. Has anyone on this list been checking to see if our Rea surname was originally Dunrea. I just remembered that one of the Rea men in Illinois (1800's) was called Gatewood Dunn Rea. 15. Re: [RHEA] Rea [1]
Mary, having researched the subject for nearly twenty years, I can tell you that the possibility of the surname Rea being derived from Dunrea in any way is virtually nil. The name is of Scottish origin and is a sept (allied family or surname) of the Clan MacRae. More likely, Gatewood's middle name, Dunn, was derived from an ancestor's surname, Dunn. It was quite common for middle names to be taken from a mother's maiden name, forinstance. If his mother's maiden name wasn't Dunn, then it could come from an e
