In my REFERENCES & NOTES, Ref. #3, I wrote about one Edward Mason, an
indentured servant hired by the widow of Archibald Rhea between 1757
and 1767. According to his Rev. War Pension Application, he lived part
of his 4-year term in Augusta Co., VA, and part in Wythe Co., VA
(actually it was then a part of Montogomery Co., becoming Wythe in 1789)
moving eventually to Knox Co., TN. In an attempt to find out what
happened to Archibald's widow, I tried tracing Edward Mason at county

I have a genealogy provided to me by Robert E. Rhea in 1997, that states John Rhea , son of William Rhea and Elizabeth Breden who married Elizabeth Looney Rhea in Fayette Co Tenn. 22 Dec 1840. She born in Maaruy County, Tennessee 4 March 1822. She was the daughter of Matthew Rhea and Mary Looney. She died 8 June 1892 Somerville, Fayette Co, Tenn, at 70 years of age.
It also states that John was listed as a member of a church in Paperville, Sullivan County, Tenn, 1 January 1847. The church was the Pa

Here is a URL: that may be helpful to some of you. It contains names, ages and pace of Residence. Also if they are living with someone else it gives that persons name. Remember not all people applied for a pension. In the early days it was unseemly if you didn't need it. Love that word UNSEEMLY

Hi cousins,
On the night of 4th April 1881 the national census was carried out. Within
the Parish of Kirkcudbright, Scotland which included the Royal Burgh, there
were 3,500 people listed.
The Parish was divided into 12 Enumeration Districts within which each
person who stayed the night within a household, or other premises, was
listed. In general the head of the household is listed first followed by a
spouse, if any; their children; then other members of the household
including boarders and resident se
I have not forgotten to send the rest of the References and Notes. I typed

Where were they born, and when did they arrive in the Colonies and in Augusta County?
This author and other researchers are certain that they were of Scotch-Irish ancestry, and emigrated from Northern Ireland. The date of their arrival in America is unknown. There is a strong stream of Ulster Scots throughout the eighteenth century, especially in the yers 1717-1718, 1727-1728, 1740-1741, and 1771-1773. The famine of 1740-1741 occasioned a ten year exodus that could have included the Reah/Reagh family. It i
