Rhea and my grandfather James Lawrence Rhea might be the person.
I recently found my grandpa on familysearch.org and he married Mahalia A.
White on May 4th 1851 at Oskaloosa,Iowa. This is where my grandfather was
born in 1863 so I think I'm on the right track. I'm trying to get a censes
report now ???

Some time ago I ran across an item by a person who said that census takers
were only paid to record whites, slaves or Free People of Color. When an Indian
person was found, that person was recorded as slave or "Black" in order for the
census taker to get to get paid. We have never been able to connect our Rhea to
Indian origin though like your post I and many others have Indian ancestry legends
in our families.

Pleasant V. Rhea(deceased), one of the early settlers of this county, was
born in Lincoln County, Tenn., grew to manhood there, and there married Miss

early and some descendants who still live in or near Yates Center,

the origin of John Rhea Sr. and (we think) Febra Rhea ( maybe Indian but

Pleasant Vincent Uriah Jackson Harrison Glenn Rhea was NOT the son of John
and Sally Rhea of Lincoln Co., TN. They did have a son named Pleasant Vincent
Rhea, but he was born circa 1803 and died circa 1864 in Washington Co.,
Arkansas. He married Fannie (Frances) Ballentine White circa 1823 in Lincoln
Co., TN and moved to Arkansas about 1830.
