Your statement, "Robert Rhea who also lived in Greenville, but who moved
west late in the 1840's", caught my attention. I am a descendant of a
Robert M. Rhea. He was born in about 1807 in Sullivan County, TN as the
son of James Rhea. Robert M. Rhea married Nancy Evans, participated in
the Illinois Black Hawk Indian War in the 1831-1832 timeframe. He moved
to Paris, Illinois by 1837, probably moved there in about 1831. I don't
know anything about any potential siblings other than half-brothers and
I was wondering if anyone has had the Y-chromosome DNA typing done for the
RHEA surname offered by Oxford Ancestors or by Ancestry.com?
In my case it might help prove/disprove my Pleasant Vincent Rhea's (born
1821) link to the Reverend Joseph Rhea line. It could also prove/disprove a
relationship to the other Pleasant Vincent Rhea (born 1803) of Lincoln Co.,
TN.

Just for History's sake, but also because it has some names I recognize, such
as Turk, Clark, and McRae- could be interesting.

This particular John Rhea, Sr. was a blacksmith and farmer born 1781 - 1790
who moved to Greeneville, Tennessee at some point before 1816. A family
letter states that he came from Virginia and that his mother was a "Gragg";
he was related to (probably the older brother) to a Robert Rhea who also
lived in Greenville, but who moved west late in the 1840's. Both John Rhea,
Sr. and Robert Rhea knew the Balch family, particularly John Tennant Balch.

Found this while doing some research in Mo. I don't have a contact with this
family below, but maybe one of you do.

Denise,
Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know there was any project like this
going on. Sounds real interesting.
Now, I wonder what kind of results I would get since I no longer have my own
DNA? Last August I had a DNA transplant and now have my brother's DNA in
me. What do they do with people who have had DNA transplants?

DNA typing can be done on either the Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA
(mtDNA). It can be used to prove descent from a common ancestor when
genealogical evidence is absent.
So for my case, I have Pleasant Vincent Rhea born 1821 probably in Lincoln
Co. and died 1901 in Texas, TN. John and Sally Rhea of Lincoln Co., TN had a
son Pleasant Vincent Rhea, but he was born in 1803 in Lincoln Co., TN and
died circa 1864 in Arkansas. My P. V. Rhea has been a brick wall or over 20
years and I have never been able to i

Can someone clue me in a little more on this DNA typing you are referring
to? I have never heard of this project. How does it work and what does it
cost?
