I'm looking for RHEAs in Hancock Co., IL? I'm researching my SAYRE line
and have a 3gUncle, William SAYRE who m. Sarah RHEA (she was b. in Chester
Co., PA in 1836, but migrated as a child w/her parents -- John & Solemah
RHEA -- to Hancock Co., IL). Does anything sound familiar or could you
refer me to other RHEA researchers who may have more info on this
SAYRE/RHEA connection?

Here is what I have on Thomas and Martha Rhea m. 1804 in Bath Co. Va. There
were my 4th. g.grandparents. Thomas was the son of James and Elizabeth
Meek(s) Rhea. He married Martha Rhea, dau. of Robert Rhea, brother of James
and Elizabeth Rhea. and they were married in Va.
Now there was a Thomas Rhea who married a Mary/Polly Rhea, and this is who
they were Thomas Rhea was the son of Robert Rhea. Robert brother to James
Rhea above. Mary was James daughter. These two Thomas and Mary were married
in 1805
I have a book titled "A Historical Trip Through Barren County, Kentucky" by
C.C. Simons. It only contains one reference to the name Rhea. Spelled this
way. I thought I would give you a few names, from the family chapter, on the
Bullocks.
The following children were born to Edward and Hannah (Clark) Bullock; Fanny
Paulina, who married Thomas Hargrove, Sept. 28th 1815, Hannah Rebecca, who
married Joseph A. Moss, 1835; Catherine R., who married John W. Bell, 1832;
John Waller who married Minerva Glover, 1833;

I know this is a long shot.... My husband's great-great grand parents
were John Monroe (no dates), married _____ Rhea (no dates).
Their daughter Laura Ella Monroe married John Randolph Huggins. John's
family lived in McNairy Co., TN, and Lauderdale Co., AL. I presume the
Rhea's lived in one of those area's also, or possibly in Northern

An interesting book for those tracing the Rheas is Notable Southern Families,
compiled by Zella Armstrong, a member of the Tennessee Historical Commission,
in 1922. This was published by the Lookout Publishing Co of Chattanooga.
Pages 253 - 303 of vol. II list entire Rhea families. Even my father
appears in it. This book is probably in most state libraries, especially
those in the south.
this chart was given to me about a year ago, with the idea that it might tie
into my family from Waverly, IL. But so far, I can't find a match. Maybe
they match up with one of you.
