You mentioned that one of the ancestral lines used the surname "Rea". Can you
share some information about that? I've been following this rootsweb
discussion group for a couple of months and have seen very little input about
REA. If it's not my line then there's little reason to continue subscribing,
right? Do we know how the various spellings evolved and if they came from the
same core name? Thanks in advance for your response.

I am looking for a John W Rea, born about 1827 in Alabama. He moved
later to Tennessee. Married a Susan Elliott in 1848 in Marshall county
Tennessee. Is there anyone who knows of my John W Rea?
Sincerely

Must be that time of the season where everyone is busy...understandibly so.
Maybe we should get some ideas going that might generate some input back
onto the list. Just a suggestion...:-) I would make a suggestion but maybe
the Webmaster or List Owner could do that, since they are the one's who'll
get flooded by the input and I wouldn't want to start something without
their permission. Hoping to hear from "everyone".

This appeared in the Bristol Herald (Washington Co VA and Sullivan Co. TN). I
have not been able to connect his father Millard to the Sullivan Co. Rheas.
Does this family look familiar to anyone?

Thanks Mary, that's a very generous offer. I've been trying for over a year to
find information on John W. Rea, born about 1809 in South Carolina. I believe
he was born in or around the Greenville area, then called the 96th district I
think. There's a story that he was the son of an immigrant from France who
stowed away on an incoming ship. We do not know his father's name (even if it
was Rea or not) or heritage (if he was french or just came in from France).
When I heard this I was quite surprise as I

Dennis,
I am descended from REA. Johnston REA with brother Joseph, sister (?),
and mother Lucinda who emigrated to Canada in 1818, then to PA in 1820.
Johnston and Joseph settled in Ohio. Lucinda is found in the 1850 census
living with Joseph in Ohio. This family is from Co. Fermanagh, Ireland.
I also watch this list, for a "just in case".
I have copied the birth and christenings, from LDS, for the various
spellings of REA from Ireland. There are 38 pages. Some of the spellings
are REA, RHEA, WRAY, REAG
