Robert Rhea, supposed father of Isabella, died in 1779 in Washington Co.,
VA. Many fo the early records I beleive are still intact at the courthouse
there in Abingdon, VA, just off Rt. 81.
Does anyone on the Rhea list live in the area that can take a look at the
details?
The Washington Co., VA Histotrical society has been helpful in the past when
I have needed lookups. Might give them a call...

Jesse, Margaret, Nancy, James, Spencer, William, John, Sarah, Richard,
Lewis
are siblings of JAMES RHEA (Not Lewis) and wife Elizabeth/Betsy Tipton.
Would like to make contact with these families. They left Tennessee
after 1850 and came in to Missouri. Some headed on westward.

Haven't seen much activity on this list lately. Have you found
all your connections? If you happen to be working on a family that has a direct tie to the Rhea familyand variations, why not let us know who they are.
You never know when someone may recognize a name, and have a connection.

Of course we have gone over the spelling part, as the person who took the census spelled it the way it sounded.

In doing some research on my Coiners I had occasion to do a national
census search ~ don't remember which site it was, but when I typed in
Rhea and Rea and Ray I found these numbers.
Rhea=400, Rea=800 and Ray=8000 - also found these spellings in that
search ~ Wray, Wrey, Rae, Reay, and Raye ~
Time period was about 1880.
I think the Rheas and Rays are like one of my Coiner spellings. Conrad

Can we have the complete summary of this family group. I seem to recall that

After a rather long absence from this list, I have subscribed once again
to try to get some answers about my 4th great grandmother, Isabella Rhea
who married James McCleskey abt 1771 possibly in SC (no marriage license
has been found).
I have completed a search of the archives for this list and found
several messages where she is listed as a child of Robert Rhea and Sarah

Indeed, I haven't found even William Henry RAY's ancestors. William Henry is
my husband's ggrandfather, and one would think that is not so far back in
time that nothing can be found about him. But that is the way it is.
According to oral family history, William Henry RAY was b. ca. 1820-22 in
Huntsville, AL (Madison County). When WHR was very young, his father died,
and his mother re-married. Then shortly thereafter, his mother died, and his
step-father re-married; thus, WHR had both a step moth

Hi Ed:
Lewis Rhea was the son of James Rhea and Elizabeth Tipton. At least a part
of this family group was included in the information I submitted to RHEA-L
several years ago, to be included in the group, TEAM 8, JAMES AND JESSE
RHEA. It should be in RHEA-L Archives. I do have a bit more information on
James Rhea and Elizabeth Tipton now.
Here's a brief outline of this family: Please note that James Rhea in Gen.
1 is the grandfather of Lewis and Spencer Rhea:
