Hi Everyone;
Finally back with the computer. This is my line. Nothing has been
found on whether she received the divorce or not, but I found somewhere
on the net (not sure where at this time, just installed new harddrive
and have not transferred everything yet) where her name was changed back
to Rhea and Robert's was also Rhea. But when Robert Preston married in
1850 he was once again using the name Fickle. (This is my
gggrandfather). Also found in the 1870 census where Abram Fickle was
married again.
Hi Ricky,
Jesse was a colonel in the Ashe County, NC militia. Also, his mother was
Elizabeth Gordon. Good luck with your research, many have tried to find
the info you're looking for and I'm not aware of any who were successful.
Anyway, I wish you all the best and hope to hear someday you've found the
answers.

In the early days of Social Security many people, especially in
the south, were faced with a major problem. They had no birth certi-
ficate. In order to collect benifits they needed some sort of proof
of their birth. There was a mad rush to the court houses to apply for
delayed certificates.
In some cases they were asked to provide not only the names of
their parents but the ages of same when the applicant was born. Many of
the forms show the place of birth of the parents. These old files are

This is a book that i saw at the Midcontinent Library, Genealogy division in
Independence, Mo. I sent all the Rhea marr. records and bonds to the list.
Its not a book that I have in my possession.
But if you can get to a library that has genealogy records you might be able
