William L. Rhea, a descendant of Rev. Joseph Rhea, wrote a GENEALOGY of
THE RHEA FAMILY, the first edition in 1893-94, the second, in 1895.
Each one was hand-written and nearly 400 pages in length. Another
descendant, Anne Rhea Bachman Hyde, stated that "If Cousin Will Rhea (of
Knoxville) wrote this, it is correct, but errors, in general, in her
genealogy [Zella Armstrong, Notable Southern Families, Vol. II], are as
the sands of the Sea. Anything that Cousin Will Rhea wrote was as the
Begats in the Bible.
Hi PAT! I still have not found positive info on my Mary Jane RHEA b-abt 1846
in Greeneville, TN. Married a James NELSON there in 1870. Her mothers name is
listed as Margaret RAY in the 1880 Greene Co. census. According to the
1850.60 census I assume that Margaret's maiden name may possibly be WELLER.
Does anyone on the list have a WELLER/RAY marriage before 1850 in their
database. Joe
Elizabeth Snapp, wife of James Rhea, and the Elizabeth Rhea Snapp who married
Rev. Alexander Blair were not the same person. The first was the grandmother
of the later.
ED FOLEY
In my records it says he died in Tennessee. 1830

Thanks for the info on the Smiley family. John Rhea was supposed to have
married first Mary Deloach but I can find no proof of this.
Does anyone know where this John Rhea migrated to?

Family Search Internet
Pat, glad to hear from you. The list has slowed down some. Spent all day
yesterday looking for a different branch of my family. Only found a
naturalization list which told me he came into Ohio by Washington County, Pa.
so gives me somewhere else to search. This is the Moles family, My
ggrandfather, Jehiel T. Rhea married Anna Bell Moles. So it's indirectly the
Rhea family. Will see what questions I can come up with on my branch,
Haldor, Guy, Jehiel, David, David William, Robert & Martha Meeks
Regarding a place of death, or remarks about it,
Not necessarily. I have a similar situation, and if not for a journal by a g.uncle, non of us would have ever known that little Lewis died October, 1873. This was my John Lawrence Rhea's child by Mary Ann Turner. The g.uncle had left his home in Waverly, Morgan, IL and traveled to Cherokee co Ks to live close to his brother. In that journal it states that Mary Ann , his wife was in poor health, and that little Lewis would be buried the next day. We did
Hello Pat,
I do not believe this Elizabeth Snapp RHEA ever remarried. She died before
her husband, James.
Also, when all of their children all mentioned in the book you made reference
to, if indeed she died early, would not a date of death and place of burial
been recorded? Perhaps even final rites or did they do that then? Any
suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated by you or anyone else on
this great list.
Thanks,
Mary Ellen
By unanimous consent, the Senate today approved legislation introduced by
Sen. Orrin G. Hatch to designate October as "Family History Month."
"Millions of Americans are researching the history of their families," said
the Utah Republican. "Experts say that in the United States, genealogy is
now the second most popular hobby next to gardening. It is believed that
more that 80 million Americans are currently actively searching for more
information about their ancestors. Go to

Hi, Connie
Everybody dig through your data bases and lets see if we can help each other. WE know that the spelling of the name makes it real hard to research. If any of you want to read the messages that we have posted before go to www.rootsweb.com and under the lists, look for Threaded archives. These do not have the Vol No or the edition, its up to you to search them, but this list goes back awhile and there is some very interesting reading.

John Rhea who married Mary DeLoach and had 2 known children and married 2nd

Where did the middle name Smiley come from? My John Rhea is said to have
married a Smiley girl as his second wife. This was in Virginia late 1700's.
This John Rhea has been hard for me to follow. His first wife is said to
have been Mary DELOACH. No Deloach line claims her.

Its time to get back to Genealogy.
Who are you researching? and what have you found recently. We have approximately 160 on the list, and it hasn't changed much in the years this list has been here. That means that we have alot of people with alot of info.
I have a question? Does anyone have any information on the below children of:
Thomas Rhea, son of James Rhea and Elizabeth Meeks; Martha Rhea, dau of Robert Rhea and Martha Sarah Meeks. They were married 1804 KY.
Children: Mary Rhea b. 1804; Nancy Rhe
Dr. Bob,
The photo that I have of H. T. RHEA also looks like he may have some Indian
or Black Dutch in him. He came to TX from TN but is one big mystery. I can
find him on the 1870 Titus Co., TX census and thereafter until his death in
1904 but he was born in TN. I have looked for two (2) RHEAs on this list but
am not having much luck and I am sure that is my fault due to my wording or
phrasing. But after reading Pat's last posting, I do understand more of what
is required of me.I have posted
Ed Foley's books are the books of choice as far as I am concerned, as he has corrected many of the mistakes in earlier works.

This is what I have run into. Some books list Elizabeth RHEA as the fourth
child of James and Elizabeth Snapp RHEA and in some, she is not listed at
all. Why is this? Mr. Ed Foley has her listed in one o

I don't think Martha ever remarried.
I printed out the info you have Ed on my family. I will send the list corrections and additions I have found on this family.

Marry Ellen my John was born in the 1870s and was married in 1891. There is
a folk tale connection to Texas about an un named daughter. Black Dutch is
common in family conversation, It can alsomean Melungeon. Judge Rhea in
Sneedville Tn. has a phot of his father inhs office that look a lot like my
grandfather, and he says he has Melungeon or Black Dutch Connection. The
problem with the Melungeon/Black Dutch is they often assumed other linages
and family names, hence dead end or brick walls. I suspect this c
