Thank you, Leon, that was a very nice history! I wonder how the Rheas of
Augusta County fit in here. Are you saying they are another branch of
the family from Ireland?
My Koiner family moved from Lebanon, North Lancaster, in 1773 to
Shippensburg, which became part of Franklin Co. after 1800 ~ in our
history which is so full of errors it is mind boggling ~ it says they
settled on the banks of the Yellow Breeches Creek and I looked for that
creek for a long time before finding it, and I've since learne

If that name was John Paul Rhea, I'd think there was a connection to Jesse
Rhea. His mother was Mary Paul, daughter of John Paul.

Thank you everyone that has been kind enough to reply to my querry about
James Rhea and Elizabeth Tipton. The story that I have heard is that they
were in a group that was headed for Oregon. But after spending a bad winter
in Bourbon Co KS they turned back and went to Benton Co Mo where Elizabeth
had some family. Their daughter my husbands great great grandmother Nancy
Rhea Boring Sturges seemed to have stayed in that area Benton Co or St Clair

I am still looking for the parents of an Elizabeth RHEA that married

Does anyone have a connection to a Reason Rhea located in Russell
County Virginia? He may have changed his spelling to Ray. He was
married to a Mary ? and had 2 children. Peter born about 1820 and Polly.
This is my husband's side of the family and I have not been able to
find any further information on them. Thanks in advance for any new
information you may provide.
Melodie Norris Rhea
It is probable that Elizabeth Tipton was the daugter of Col. John Tipton of VA b. 1767 who lived in East TN and died in Nashville. His wife of Elizabeth Snapp and this family has left many roots in East TN. Their son Abraham Tipton married Mary 'Polly' Boring in 1814 in Washgington Co., TN. Might look for the Borings there.

Following are Rheas I found while doing other Scots-Irish research in
PA. Does anyone know anything about the Scots-Irish history in early PA,
as early as 1740? As far east as Philadelphia.
There seems to be a pattern for these immigrants from eastern PA to
western PA and into SW VA, TN, KY, MO. Are there are any ship lists
available?

Elva,
There are many experienced and wonderful people on this RHEA list that has
been so helpful to me in the past 18 months. If you will post your data on
this list,
I believe in my heart that someone can help you. There has been so little
activity but maybe the listers, including myself, can help you discover where
your Illinois RHEAs came from before they settled in IL. This time last year
I could have never known what I would be finding out about my RHEAs. There

These are the primarly Rheas who settled in PA. This line is also one that did not keep the spelling RHEA. The bulk of their descendants used REA.

I will be posting what I have this evening so watch for it. At that time I
will have more time to devote to it.
Isn't it wonderful to have so many people so willing to share what they have

Thanks for the background on the Rheas in Oregon. I will look for them.
I live and do research in Lane County which is right next to Linn.

When this opens up just type in Rhea and it will open. The messages are all
the way from 1996 till now. You can type in a persons name and it will search
for all the messages that contain that name, in that specific year. The
first year contains alot of info.
It seems that we tend to go over that info every year and thats ok, because
we have new people from time to time.

Hi Norma:
You probably already know this, but there are a jillion McSpaddens in East
Tennessee and on into Texas. They married Wrights, Magills, Lowrys, etc,
etc, etc, ad infinitum, and there is a collateral Lowe line.
There has been a lot of excellent research done on this line of McSpaddens.
No connection with my Rheas, that I know of.

I beleive it was the immigrants Samuel and Eleanor Snodgrass Rhea who settled in this area of PA. They arrived soon after they were married in Co., Down Ireland - about 1750 if I recall correctly.
I will forward their story in a seperate e-mail.

Hello Pat,
Please tell us how to get into this archives. I may be the only one on
the list that does not know how ... but there could be others. I have
learned
so much from people on this list in the past year and it is my desire to be
able to help others. In April of this year, I was able to spend over a week
in Blount County and Sullivan County Tennessee doing research on my
RHEA line. We did find where our Great Great Grandmother was buried.
She is Elizabeth RHEA FRENCH and is buried in Louisville C
Hi, everyone. I just wanted to tell you about the Rea Surname DNA Project, which is underway right now and is designed to link all the Reas (and all variant spellings of the name) via the science of DNA matching. To find out more the project and how you can participate, please visit the Rea Surname DNA Project website:

This is my husbands family and the information is vague and unconfirmed. One
of James Rhea's and Elizabeth Tipton's daughters was Nancy Rhea born about
1830 TN she married Russell Boring/Boren abt 1845 she had several children
by that marriage and Russell died in GA. Nancy Rhea Boring/Boren moved to Mo
with her children and parents she than married a Clark Sturges/Sturgis in Mo.
She had several children by that marriage and my husband's line descended
from the second marriage that is the family line
Does this family group look familiar to anyone?
"I do know I have a second great grandfather named John Pall Rhea and then
his

named Cora Ellen Rhea Jones, which is my grandmother. Does any of this
match with your information? Two of these are buried in Mo.. John Pall
