1. [RHEIN-PFALZ] German surnames [1]
Hi listers; I know I am going to regret doing this, but because someone did me a huge favour a few years ago in looking up names for my family when she didn't have to, I feel I need to repay the good deed. I have a small list of German surnames from one little part of our topic area. They are for the Kirchheim Bolanden Parish which is a little area around the town of the same name and it is about half-way between Mainz and Kaiserlautern. The villages of Ilbesheim, Gerbach, Gollheim, Stetten,
2. [RHEIN-PFALZ] German first name sounds like Zennin? [1]
Was just talking with a woman I've been working with trying to tie our two families together and she mentioned that she had one first cousin over in Germany that she ever knew of and his first name was Zennin. She's sure she never saw the name written down so she doesn't know how it was spelled. She's a sharp 86-year-old and I have no reason to doubt her about this name. I've just never seen or heard of it before. I tried behindthename.com and tried every spelling I could think of. I'm sure it

Well, first of all for some reason on Magdlena's marriage certificate to Alexander Johnston in 1863 she signed it M. Sherwood. On her sons' birth certificates she signed her name as Magdlena Sherwood. I do not know where "Sherwood" comes in at. On her 2nd marriage certificate in 1870, she gave her surname as "Keisel" & listed her parents names. In the 1850 census, I found the family under "Kleissel". No, I have not been able to locate them entering America. I would think they came through

Terry, If you know what/which town/parish they married in & unless you wanna order the film & (try to) read the old Latin/German writing, & want copies of the origional entries, I can give you a site that will, probably, show you, online, the extracted records. Hi Bob: The German for midnight is mitternacht. Thanks for setting me straight. Have you looked in the 1861and 1871 Census? 1861 is FHL film 865077/8 for him? I have both Census records - unfortunately, the 1861 just shows Head of Household Have you looked for and found his marriage record. His marriage date is given on a birth record for one of his children. Not known if he married in Nova Scotia or before he immigrated. His Wife, Mary, died before the 1871 Census and

Hello Everyone, I am new to this List. I am searching for the parents & siblings of Charles MIDNIGHT. I would think that his name may have been Karl MITTNACHT - but I don't know for sure as all records have him as Carl/Charles MIDNIGHT. According to a Canadian Census, he was born abt 1829 in Germany of Russian descent - birth place unknown. Charles immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada bet 1845-1850 and married there. Hi Al: Thought I'd give you something else to think about. When I finally located the town my family was from, I found that the LDS had filmed the records that I needed. I had to teach myself Latin. It took me at least 2 years to work my way thru the films. In 2 hours time Ancestor Seekers, a group out of Salt Lake City, UT (email: research@ancestorseekers.com) confirmed everything that I had found and translated. I would heartily recommend them. I believe their research cost $50/hr. They have speci
