1. Re: [RIGENWEB] .History .. of Funeral Homes .. [1]
And although there were morticians, many people were viewed in their own homes. When my grandfather died in 1935 his viewing and funeral were conducted at home. This was not because of a lack of money (he was the Treasurer of a major Corporation) but because this the way it was done in the Boston area in that day. Hi Listers, Happy Holidays to all of you. I was wondering about the CD. Does anyone have it? Worthwhile investment? Can someone post comments on it, or send me an email privately, thank you. I'm thinking about ordering it but want to make sure it's not an overlap of FTM #215...thanks. Nancy-Jo Nunez

7. [RIGENWEB] My Grandmother Served Saturday-Night Suppers .. CLARK, DEXTER, MANCHESTER [1]
Hello, I just thought I'd jump into the conversation. My grandmother served the "Saturday night suppers" that you are describing (hot dog, beans, etc.) and added to that by serving homemade bread, biscuits, and pies, etc. I remember them all during the 1950's and until her death 2 months before my wedding in 1967. It wasn't until I joined the RI Lists a year or so ago .. that I learned this was a RI tradition. (I'd like to ask if .. a glass or bowl of "molasses and milk" is a RI tradition also

10. [RIGENWEB] Off Topic: "Chestah Draws", The continuing saga [1]
Thanks to all of you for your kind responses. My son is in the process of upgrading my pc and I've had 'off and on again' blips in time on line. Right now, I am on again, and will try to respond to those who wrote me personally (THANKS!) We attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. My roommate at that time was then and is still one of my best friends. Her Mother, a forever great lover of antiques, was then and is to this day, ticked off that I got 'Chestah' in lieu of money her daughter

Beth and All, these transcriptions are great. I read everyone, but just to show how we need to cross check everything the one below for Amanda Leavens is wrong: She was my 2nd great grandmother and actually married William S. 12. [RIGENWEB] Training School Buildings, Cranston [1]
Hi List - Just came back from our quest to find Santa in Garden City, Cranston, but alas he was not there this year. :-( (I did learn he will be at Appleby's for breakfast Saturday at 8:00 AM) I haven't been there in a couple of years, so I was sad to see that several of the training school buildings have been taken down along Sockanosett Cross Road, near the corner of New London Ave. There is one building remaining opposite the road that goes into Garden City - It looks like it could have been
13. [RIGENWEB] Phillip Sherman [1]
Hello everyone, I too, and descended from Phillip through three of his children. I descended through Edmund, John and Samuel. Through Edmund, I descend from his son Samuel. Through John, I descend through his son Timothy and his daughter Hannah. Through Samuel, I descend through his son John directly down to my grandfather Clifford Sherman and my dad Clifford Sherman Jr. I married a man that was from Ohio/West Virginia and when I started tracing his line back, found he traced back to the MOSHER famil

Here's a fitting poem that you might enjoy My Ancestor Your headstone stands among the rest neglected and alone. The name and date are chiseled out and details are unknown. It reaches out to all who care, it is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist, you died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you, in flesh, in blood and bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse entirely not our own. Dear ancestor, the place you filled one hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you le

Over the years, I made many trips to the Newport Historical Society and on some occasions to the town hall. These trips were made in searching for parents of my gggrandfather William Manchester Hathaway. William M. married twice in Peace Dale RI, and his first marriage was to Mary Steadman. After she died in 1857, he had the 3 children from that marriage when he married his 2nd wife, Sarah Rathbun. William died in 1876, and was buried in Peace Dale, yet his 5 year old son, Thomas, was buried in 1859 i

Joyce - What year are you looking for? Heritage Quest has a finding aid for the 1930 census on its web site. Go to this web site, and follow the instructions to search http://www2.heritagequest.com/1930census/beginsearch.asp I found a listing for ST. MARY'S HOME FOR CHILDREN Pub. #T626 Film 2173 County PROVIDENCE Enumeration District 4- 234 Maybe the enumeration district will help you narrow down where to look on Ancestry. 20. Re: [RIGENWEB] Nancy-Jo and my previous posting [1]
How can slavery among our ancestors be considered off-topic? I still maintain yesterday's history, mores, etc. are today's genealogy. Silly stuff is one thing, historical facts are another. That said, my Coggeshall Quaker gggg g'f defended his Middletown farm for something like 9 days in the Revolution. Hard to believe that would be frowned upon.
