Paulette,
"A Tale of Old Newport" is an article written by Andrews Moriarty that was
published in a genealogy publication. I made a photo copy of the article,
but I did not record the publication in which the article was printed. The
article is about my ancestor Herodias (Long( Hicks-Gardiner-Porter. I live
in Arizona and we found the article in a local genealogy library--prababy at
the State Capitol. The local Family History Centers that the LDS Church has

Hi,
I am a descendant of William Gardiner the son of George Gardiner and
Herodias Long who was married previously to John Hicks and later married
John Porter. It appears that my wife is a decendant of John Porter and
Herodias.
When we first started doing genealogy we did not record sources very well.
We have a photo copy of an article entitled "HERODIAS (LONG)
HICKS-GARDINER-PORTER, A TALE OF OLD NEWPORT" by G. Andrews Moriarty. The
article was printed on pages 599-607.
Does anyone know the name of the

I have a 1940 Newport City Directory. What would you like looked up?
That "Tales of Old Newport" is often for sale on Ebay.
I am in Washington State, too. Near Puyallup. It is not easy to find East
Coast books to research here....but, the Internet has been grand.

Hi Al,
I can only give you a name that needs to be proven. The name that I have is
Elizabeth Wilkinson, but I have no documentation. For a source I have Nancy
Mauro of Floridia. Her e-mail address is mauro@gte.net Perhaps she has a
source. If she does, please let me know.
In "A Tale of Old Newport" it only mentions the wife of each of the sons by
given name.
Best regards,
Max
Hi Norm
Am interested to know if you have any more information on BARLOWS in RI or
southern MA? I am searching for maiden name of Georgianna BARLOW's mother
Ellen who was apparently born in Fall River, MA and of Georgianna's fathers
parents. Her Dad was William BARLOW who may have had 2 brothers. Thomas was
one of them.
Thanks for your help.

Max and others:
Noted in one of your postings that you mention a book "A Tale of Old
Newport". Is this available in a library back there? What period of time
does it cover? I need 1890 on.
Also I found on Ancestry.com a Newport directory for 1892, but are there
other years after that available anywhere?
Living in Washington state puts a crimp in being able to go to libraries and
visit the area where my relatives, Edes, were raised.
Any assistance will be very much appreciated.
