Could "Swift Grant" be Swift Current? It's in Saskatchewan. Could what
looks like "Salem, Oregon" be actually "Saskatchewan"?

Hi,
I am hoping someone on this list can help me. I am having problems finding
birth records on my great great grandmother Sophia Roberts. She died in
Williams Lake BC in May 1954. She married James Hampton Roberts and they lived
in Soda Creek BC on the Roberts Ranch. All we know is that she was born in
Butte Montana around 1876 and that she had many last names including Jocobema
Danjodie Kinck and Dorosty. I also know that she was in Cleveland Montana in
1901 and then in Medicine Hat AB

I found David E. Reddekopp, age 34, and his wife Ada E. living in Treffry,
Benewah County, Idaho in the 1920 U.S.Census.
Reddekopp, David E. age 34 b.1855 in Oregon f. & M. born in
Russia - both spoke German
Ada E. age 34 b. 1855 in England f. born in
England m. born in Ireland
Thanks to all who responded to my query re Ada Elizabeth. The general consensus is that it's probably 'Swift Current' Saskatchewan.
I'm not in possession of the letter at present. Will ask relatives in UK to look at it again in that light.
Regards,
Bob Roberts.
New to the list.
My Great Aunt, Ada Elizabeth ROBERTS b1877 Reading, Berkshire, England. Migrated to Canada from Middlesex, between 1901-6. Unable to trace the ship she took passage on. We have a letter, not very legible, but it looks like she married David Reddekopp around 1906 at "Salem, Oregon, Canada" at (looks like) 'Swift Grant'. From the US Census we know Ada and David crossed to Idaho in 1908. I'm not very conversant with Canadian geography, but I thought that Salem, Oregon would be in the US.

Are most Canadian Roberts lines believed to be Scottish (or something else)?
My Y chromosome match was with a Reid (who descends from the Reid-Robertson's of Clan Donnachaidh) as well other surnames associated with Highland clans who held lands neighbouring Clan Donnachaidh territory.
Most sincerely, Peter
