Good Morning Tom,
I believe that you will discover that most
of the men who lived in rural areas prior to
1900 were jack of all trades. They could build their own homes, clear their own fields, plow and and do what ever was needed to survive. In
as much as surveying was such an important part
of every ones life meant most men had worked at
some time or another as a sworn chain carrier.
Today we hire companies to handle that chore.

Can anyone tell me if there is any significance to the given name of Fielding?
It seems there were quite a few people given Fielding as a given name right
about the time the above Fielding Robinson was born who do NOT appear to have
Fielding surname ancestors. Does anyone know what event, if any, triggered
the somewhat frequent use of that given name in the late 1700s?
Thanks for any hel
