1. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] Old Bailey Online [1]
Kristin, Good to hear from you. The web site giving the Old Baily Prison proceeding is certainly an interesting find. Thanks for sharing it. I recommend that all take a look at it. It certainly gives one a feel for the penal system in England in the early 1700s. For the information of some of the list's new comers, in early 2000 several of us shared the cost of hiring a researcher in London to try and find out more about the crime committed by Benjamin Rogers in 1733 that lead to us all being Am

4. [ROGERS-BEN] Old Bailey Online [1]
Dear Cousins, We have found a new website at http://www.oldbaileyonline.org/ that is the proceedings of the Old Bailey Courts in London. It is searchable, and the trials of Benjamin Rogers and the William Rogers that we have assumed to be related are available there, including hundreds of other trials from that era. This site also has extraordinarily good background information on the types of punishment, trials, pleas, and explains what the terms mean. For instance, since Benjamin was convicted of
5. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] Old Bailey Online [1]
In reply, let me tell everyone of a new and WONDERFUL book about the Holston settlements from around the time Benjamin and the family moved there. It is entitled "The Winning Of The West" by Theodore Roosevelt and is in a two volume set. It is by far one of the best and most comprehensive looks at the Early settlers such as our Rogers that I have ever read and I think many of you will enjoy it as I have. -Benjamin Marchi
6. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] Old Bailey Online [1]
Hi, Also want to let you all know that I have Kegleys, "On The Western Waters", both volumes & would be happy to do look ups for those that are interested, I believe that Benjamin & his sons are listed in these volumes. Thanks Michael Miller

Janet, Not to worry, we are not on a time schedule.......especially when it comes to great information like you provided. Good stuff. Thanks. Jerry
8. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] Re: John Rogers (TPM) Revolutionary War record [1]
My cousin who told me this, Cleon Rogers, is probably close to 80. His Dad, was Uncle Lee Rogers who married Ida Umfleet. Lee told his kids that his Grandpa Rogers was hung during the Civil War...BUT he did not say for what. So it sort of matches what Floyd James heard. My instinct tells me that there is truth to that story BUT what truth, well, I would like to know where the family was living in 1860. That would place them close to the civil war start date. I know my mothers family that came from
9. [ROGERS-BEN] Re: Ann Britton, 1st Wife of John (TPM) [1]
Lea, You wrote: "I do not know who Leona E. Wilson is." Leona Elizabeth Wilson b. 22 Apr 1925 is the 4th and 5th great granddaughter of John (TPM) Rogers. Her great grandparents are David Canada Maupin b. 1841 and Mary Ann Rogers b. 1846. They were also second cousins once removed. He was the son of Fountain Maupin b. 1806 and Elizabe
10. [ROGERS-BEN] Mary Katherine Rogers 1811 m. James Small 1830s TN [1]
Hello Group, I'm a new subscriber. Thanks to Jerry who saw my posting on the Rogers Mail List and replied. My initial query was for a William Rogers born 1777 Montgomery (now Wythe) Co VA who had a daughter Mary Katherine Rogers born 1811 TN and married James Small about 1830. The James and Mary Small family is found on the Roane Co Tn census 1850 (with 8 children) and 1860. I've been informed Mary Katherine was the daughter of Wm Rogers born 1777 who lived in Caliborne Co TN. Question: How h
11. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] State vs. Samuel and Reuben Rogers, part 4 [1]
Kristin This investigation into Samuel and Reuben Rogers must be so exciting for you, it is certaining interesting to read. As I read your first email tonight, I thought to myself, only family researchers would experience the thrill you must have had as you opened that box and untied that bundle of court documents!!! The descendants have heard the story passed from one generation to another, now after 163 years, we are the fortunate, due to your investigation work. Great Job!!! Thanks for sharing....
12. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] Re: State vs. Samuel and Reuben Rogers [1]
Jerry, Sometime in my search, I found TWO distinctly different dates of marriage for Samuel Rogers (Son of Major Reuben) to Alscy Vine. I have always wondered about the difference in the two dates, and of course why two different marriage dates? Does anyone have any insight into this. I also want to thank Kristin for her great discovery.!!!!! Thanks Michael

14. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] State vs. Samuel and Reuben Rogers, part 1 [1]
Kristin, I have a question, which I dont know why I haven't asked before. If you are descended from Samuel (Son of Reuben, Son of Jos., Son of Benjamin), which of his children are you from? Are you from his son Joseph? Please clarify this for me as I am a bit confused, Thanks Michael

16. [ROGERS-BEN] John Brawley [1]
Cousins, I thought that many of you would be very interested in this information about John Brawley.......the father of Benjaminb. 1756 (Jr)'s wife, Martha b. 1766, and John (TPM)'s second wife, Mary b.1774. As we know, several generations of Rogers have carried the middle name of Brawley. Although these sons of John (TPM): Rev Dr. William b. 1777, Maj David b.1779, and Jesse b. 1791 were born by John's first wife _____ Britton, they still had sons, grandsons, and great grandsons with the name Reub
17. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] State vs. Samuel and Reuben Rogers, part 4 [1]
Kristin, This is so exciting! Thank you so much for your hard work and perseverance. I would love to have copies of the scanned signatures when you get to that. My initial question had been why Samuel 1814 had not come to MO with his family. The stories Michael Miller had heard were that he had been 'hung'. If your family fled for fear of their lives, it makes me wonder if Samuel's murder had been in retribution for this past incident. (just a thought) Reuben... Samuel...Harriet Sheanlurgin Rogers.... 18. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] Correcting Errors [1]
Cousins I totally agree with Jerry in regard to trying to clarify errors on past research. Some of the research I was given had errors and only through our exchange have I been able to correct some of them. I hope to correct all errors as we discuss research through our exchanges. Perhaps we should start an exchange from Benjamin (The Immigrant) forward and discuss each generation. Listing data and documentation. With open discussion on this site we can eliminate alot of errors. I want to thank

Hello, I am very glad that I was put in touch with this list. It is the best one for the Rogers family from Claiborne Co. My ggrandfather was Madison M Rogers b. 3 May 1819 Claiborne Co, TN d.27 Feb 1901. He married Mary White (m. 19 Nov 1846) who was b. 11 Sep 1828 d. 18 Aug 1895. I was told he was a son of John (the powdermaker). However he was not included in the arrangements made for the minor children at John's death in 1822. I can't believe he would be just left out. It has also been su

21. Re: [ROGERS-BEN] Re: State vs. Samuel and Reuben Rogers [1]
If the two dates of marriage were within a few months of each other, it can usually be explained by one being the date of the marriage bond and the later one, the actual date of the wedding....
