3. [ROOTS-L] Re: Unknown 1800's word: deo__e [1]
The word is clearly "devise", meaning "leave by will". It's a word that lawyers use, but nobody else does (with that meaning). John Chandler
4. [ROOTS-L] Is Ancestry playing fair with RootsWeb? [1]
Just a few comments on your posting. You stated that in your opinion Ancestry operated a clumsy site "called World Family Tree. "WFT"." World Family Tree is operated by Family Tree Maker which is a different company completely. Then you stated >With no other basis for judgement, I choose to trust the "Once Non >Commercial" WCP. The two examples of Ancestry's MyFamily.com and Ancestry.com family trees are both free of charge. In fact no one can access your pedigree in MyFamily.com unless you want them

Note the pronunciations: Elijah = ee LIE juh (accent on 2nd syl) Elisha = ee LIE shuh ditto Elihu = ELL eh hoo Eli = EE lie Based on the pronunciation, and confirmed by anecdotal evidence, the shortened forms of the first two names would be Lije and Lish. There is a way to make a joke out of Elihu, though: "Eli who???", which could someti
10. [ROOTS-L] Tintype Photo [1]
I received from my dad today a tintype photo of two men possibly father and son. I have a couple of questions: 1) What years were tin types made and/or popular and 2) I have scanned the picture, is there someone out there that would be willing to look at it and possibly give me a date range of when it might have been made? Thanks Rachel http://www.cheljohnson.homestead.com/welcome.html
11. [ROOTS-L] Old LDS files/record [1]
I'm not sure what the CD's were that you purchased, but I don't think they would have been the IGI. You would need all of FamilySearch in order for it to work and it is more than 5 or 6 CD's. They have put out the Pedigree Resource File which was that size to begin with. It is records that were sent in by people over the internet to share with others. They also did another set of CD's that was a new addition to some of the records on the FamilySearch in the Family History Centers, but it wouldn't
