Thank you Ellen for your help and advice. I will search through the Irish
Civil Registrations
at the LDS as soon as they resume after the holidays. I will write to the
Parish Priest at Elphin,
as soon as I feel he will have recovered from all the work he will have had
to do over the
Christmas period.
Best Wishes for the New Year.
Therese.
Hi Helen,
Ooo! What a nice story. I wonder if it was an inheritance and if she ever
received it, or if she was never contacted. I wonder if she was related to
our Anne Byrne? There are so many broken links, but it will be wonderful
when we can mend them. Did you notice that I said "when" and not "if"? I
have decided to be more optimistic now that we have a New Year.
About the name of John Elwood's brother/cousin - - - I am sorry, nobody in
the family knows his name. I wish they did, as it may shed some

Happy New Year!
I'm reposting my interests in BENSON & BENISON, specifically from the
Keadue village, Kilronan & Ardcarn Parishes, area.
My great-grandfather, James BENSON, and his brother, John, emigrated to
Canada from Ireland around 1853. James stayed in Ontario, Canada, and John,
we believe, continued on to the USA.
I have searched church records for Kilronan and Ardcarn Parishes, and
haven't found anything conclusive, yet. I have kept track of any BENSONS &
BENISONS that I have found.
Any other des
I was surprised by the relativly few RC cemeteries in Roscommon. Of 59,
only 10 seem to have attached cemeteries. My experience is that the
stones may look very old but that is the result of the weathering for a
short period. The cemeteries do not seem to have perpeptual care,
either, with weeds and brambles abounding.
I cannot copy an Excel file so if you want the list, send me an email
requesting it as an attachment.

Cathy,
Saw a McDERMOTT listed in your message. Wonder what info
you have on that name, especially if there happens to be one
in Iowa in the 1860s. There was a Mollie HIGGINS born in
Red Oak, IA in 1866-68. Her parents were Patrick HIGGINS
and Ellen McDERMOTT. They came to this country in about
1865 with three older children and then eventually settled
in Hamilton, IL where he worked for a railroad (and where he
was killed in an accident on the railroad bridge over the
Misissippi). They came from Rosco
Hello,
This is a rough report for the older generations of my Maxwell family. A
James and Thomas Maxwell listed as godparents may have been from Annaduff
parish in County Leitrim. Both names are listed in Griffith's Valuation
for that time period in that place. I order the Annaduff microfilmed
records tomorrow at the Family History Center.
1. Lady Featherstone #764 b. Eire, m. before 1825, ? Maxwell #763, b.

Hello,
I have a Margaret McDERMOTT, who married James CRAHAN/CROGHAN in the
1830s in Roscommon. Among their children was a Bridget, born 1836, and an
Ellen, born 1838 and christened in December 1838 in Killucan and Ballinameen.
Ellen married Edward CARTY in 1860 and they moved to Sunderland, England in
1864.
Is this of any interest?

If someone had belonged to St. Joseph's parish in Boyle back in 1840, in what cemetery would they most probably have been buried? How would one go about getting in touch with that cemetery?
I expect that my Beirn / Gavican ancestors were buried there, and I'd just love to be able to find some records to prove it. Otherwise, I've reached that nasty brick wall. Thank you.
Happy New Year!

To all,
My CONNELLY ancestors were in Strokestown from about 1750 until 1847
The Mormans have some church records with baptisms starting about 1830
I need to know if there is any way to find baptism records for Strokestown
before 1830?
I also need to know if there are any marriage indexes for that area?
thanks, Debbie
Is there a Patrick Larkin on this list who may have sent me a message I am unable to retrieve?

I saw your note about your McDermotts in Boyle, Roscommon. I also

McDermott. Dominick had an older sister Bridget who also came to
America. In 1870, Dominick married Annie Kane in Wisconsin. Her
parents were Patrick and Bridget Kane. Bridget was also from Co

Hello Lynda. I'm sorry to have to tell you that the post that you sent, "Looking for a Catholic cemetery", was contaminated with a virus; therefore, I was unable to read your message.
Hope you can get it straightened out soon. It's happened to me, and it's a real nuisance. Good luck!

Hello,
I am trying to find out what Churchborough means in terms of place in
Roscommon. Do I have the spelling incorrect? A John J Ganley listed
Churchborough, Co. Roscommon as his birthplace, b. 22 JUN 1866.
Thanks,
