All records for St.Patricks and St.Marys can be found at the American French
Genealogical Society in Woonsocket, R.I. They have all R.I. parish, births,
marriages, Communions and some Confirmations. They can be found at:
http:// www.afgs.org/
These microfilms can be searched at the library, or someone there will do it
for a fee.

Denise,
FYI, I also found a treasure chest of information in the LDS Loughglynn
records, however the gaps included the baptismal record of my
grandmother, Mary Agnes Rabbit. While on a visit, the very nice parish
priest went through his records for me . . . if he had not had a wedding
rehearsal to go to he said that he would have let me go through them . .
. and he soon found her record. I neglected to ask him for a copy, and
later I found the same record on the microfilm at the Irish National

Hi Moyra, Wish you would have given your aunts name-makes it easier. But,
there weren't that many Gara in Ireland, so: This catholic one: Dominick
Gara married: August 1, 1842 Aghanagh..Sligo, Ireland. Spouse: BRIGDAM
SMITH. I hope this is your aunt that you were searching for. Good Luck.

Dear Jane:
Thank you for your kind offer, of going to the Rhode Island Historical
Society. Actually, I and my 80 year old parents traveled there 2 years ago.
We had a lovely time in Providence and in Valley Falls, viewing all the old
mills where our Irish Catholic ancestors had toiled upon their arrival in
the US.
The only information I was able to gleam at the Historical Society was a
brief amount of information about Michael F. Costello 17OCT1879-16NOV1969 (a
son of Michael Costello 1841Roscommon-
Thanks all for the reply. At least I know it's a common occurance. I was
over there 2 years ago, in Strokestown, but the place was closed (middle of
the day) and I never made it back.
Like I said, I have used other Heritage Centers in different counties to
help me get over some brickwalls in the past and were very please with the
help, even though a little pricey. But, they aided me in continuing my
research from the US so I guess it's money well spent and the time frame
was 4-6 weeks.
Oh, well, I'l

Dear Tom,
I mailed a check along with a list of family members
born in Roscommon in the 1820-1840 time period. Date -
September 10, 2001.
The website of the Heritage Soc. said that they
usually would respond within a month, but there was a
3 month backlog. So, I waited about 4 months and then
sent a very polite email to inquire on the status of
my request of September 10, 2001. I did receive a
response that they had been on Christmas holiday and
had also been moving. (Probably rearranging furniture)

Hello everyone,
I am researching GEORGE MOON, tailor for a friend of mine and he is listed in Slater's Manchester directory for 1861.
This lead me to the 1861 census for Manchester and his name is spelt 'Moone' or is it 'Moore'?. I cannot tell. However, the age of his son fits with my Moon info so I need to confirm I have the right family.
According to the census George and his wife Julia were born in Roscommon, Ireland; George in 1836 and Julia in 1835.
Their eldest son was born in Machester in 1857, s

Dear Tom:
I received my reply from the Roscommon Heritage Center about 8 months after
my $45.00 check was cashed. After 2 requests for the status, they sent it
with an apolgy for misfiling it. It contained a detailed account of all the
research I had already found through looking at film at the LDS Family
History Library in the US. In other words, I am not sure they have any more
information, than we can access here.

Our Roscommon Morris family went into England during
the famine. The 2Xgreat grandfather was Cornelius
Morris, who died in Wigan. They never returned to
Ireland, and my grandfather Cornelius went to
Brooklyn,NY in 1881.
Sorry I can't make a connection with your Morris
family. Thanks for asking.

Hello Fran,
I don't know much about her, but my third great-grandmother Bridget
BYRNE was born around 1817 in County Roscommon. She was likely born in
Boyle, because her husband, Patrick McDERMOTT, was born in Boyle.
She and Patrick moved to Tompkins Co, NY and then to Watertown, Dodge
Co, Wisconsin.

Yes, You're right the name Costello must be common. Also, I have found I
have found the name Nolan in this line..it's like they kept marrying
cousins. It's an never ending story. I will let you known if I find anything
more on these two names though. I know there were some that ventured to
Australia as well. Do you have any of these names in your line: O'KEEFFE,
KILAGALLON, JOHNSTON, WARD, CRUISE, HIGGINS, VESEY to name but a few??
Thanks for your email I appreciate it...good to hear from you.

Gail,
There is a very large cemetery right in Castlerea. Also, since I was searching for Ronans, I noticed quite a few Ruanes there on my walkthrough this last March. There is a St.Patrick's Church in Cloonfad, but I did not notice a cemetery thereabouts although that doesn't mean that there wasn't one hiding somewhere. The only other cemeteries in the Cloonfad area would be at Garranlahan Church or in Dunmore, Co. Galway. There is a cemetery at Ardcloon just west of Dunmore and I believe that there were
Joan,
I noticed your mention of Morris in Roscommon. My husband's
great-grandmother was Margaret (Marguerite?) Morris, probably
born in Roscommon ca 1830-38. She married Lt. Daniel Joseph
Hutchinson (said by one of his granddaughters to have been "a
Galway man") of a British East Kent regiment called "The Buffs,"
which was stationed in Roscommon at various times. She is buried
with him in the churchyard of St. Coman's Church in Roscommon,
according to her granddaughter, Margaret Hutchinson Coffey of

Only about 5 from Ireland. You would really need a last name for the wife.
Durr and Dolan are too common..to many to research. I'm sorry I couldn't

Hi Denise, I will check another source from my data base. It's odd that I
can't find anything. I will say this..I have been to Athlone, Ireland and
went into the church (St.Peter's) there to research for myself...they
'never' let go of the large red record books as I was just able to scan and
that was about it. But, I did find some of my ancestors. Aside from
that..that county was referred to as Co. Westmeath...yet, while I do
research on the computer from home I 'often' find they referr to this area
as Ros
