Janet, this Captain John Rudd is also who I believe to be the ancestor of my
son-in-law's John Rudd/Bryant Rudd who ended up in 1830 Knox Co., Ky. and
onto McCracken Co., Ky. Do you have a descendency of this Captain John Rudd?
The John Rudd of the 1830 Knox Co. census appears to have been born (I'm
doing this totally from memory) I think about 1780/1790. Do you have any
information?

Can anyone tell me if there is usually a long wait for receiving an original social security application form (SS-5) from the Social Security Administration? I looked up a deceased relative on Ancestry.com's SSDI and used their request form, which automatically printed the information including the relative's name and social security number. I mailed that form along with a check for $7.00 in early February. I have not received any correspondence concerning my application, nor has my check cleared my bank
It takes a LOOOONNNNNNGGGGG time. The last one I sent for finally
arrived, they no longer send you a photocopy of the original app., but a
computer printout, which doesn't give their occupation or where they
work. On top of that they didn't send me the one I had asked for! So I
sent it back with a furious note that I wanted the right one and that I
wanted a photocopy of the original application! What do you want to bet
I don't get the photocopy?

My only known Rudd ancester (BIG brick wall) is my grandmother. She was
either raised in foster care or adopted and we don't know whether Rudd was
her birth name or adopted name.
Mildred Rudd, born 09/10/1909, Washington, DC, died 01/08/1971; married
Ashton R. Loveless. She was raised in Virginia.
Hi Cousins,
I was doing a web search yesterday and found a publishing company called Rudd
& Carlton. It seems to have been located in New York and I found books
published mainly in the years 1858-1861.
Does anyone have any information about who this might be?

Milton,
I recently purchased the book which included Lydia's diary (Women's Diaries
of the Westward Journey) and was wondering where/how Harry fit into the Rudd
family. I'm going to study Rudd Branches to see if I can find him in there.
My Rudd line is as follows:
Jonathan Rudd + Mary ---
Nathaniel Rudd + Abigail Hartshorn
Joseph Rudd Sr. + Sarah Moseley
Joseph Rudd Jr. + Sarah Story
Joseph Rudd III + Vernera Smith
Vernera Rudd + Elisha Babcock
Sarah Babcock + Joseph Learn
Rosa Learn + Edgar Learn

What year did they come on the wagon train? My great great grandmother,
Fannie Mariah Rudd Spencer came on a wagon train to CA in 1852 from Iowa.

Hi All,
I got the following inquiry about Kentucky Rudds and wanted to know if any of
you might have any information for Jim. McCraken County is in far-Western
Kentucky near St. Louis. I do have some relatives that settled close to
there, so there might be a connection.
Also, could someone email Jim and tell him how to sign up for the Rudd
mailing list, I don't know the details.

Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you. I spent hours and days entering in info that I brought
back from CO two years ago on the Anson line. My grandmother thought we might be related to that
line of Rudds but I dont' think so unless it was way back in CT or England. My KY Rudds are probably
from the one you mention about being the Captain of the sailing boat. Have you any thing on this KY
line?
I have quite a bit of info on the Anson Rudd line into Canon City. We visited the museum last time
we were
I checked the 1920 census and couldn't find anything. Didn't finish it
though. She might have been raised in Virginia. The only thing I have so far
is her death certificate. I did get her social security number off of that
and have sent for her application. When you have 2 states to deal with it
gets a little more confusing. Thanks for your advice.

The longest wait I have had has been about six weeks but normally it is
closer to 4 weeks to get a response from SSA for me. However, I live in
Maryland so Baltimore is close by.

Harry and Lydia (Morrison) Rudd are on my husband's line.
Harry is the son of Marverick (sometimes spelled Maverick) Rudd.
Harry and wife Lydia, along with Harry's sister Mary (Rudd) and husband
Henry Jones came out to Oregon on the same wagontrain.
(This is the Henry and Mary mentioned in the book.) It does not say
if their parents, Marverick and Mariah came with them, but
I do know they settled in Oregon around the same time.
Harry and Lydia settled in Linn County. Henry and Mary (my husband's

Hi, Judy,
I also have that book. I figured out how they were related; think I
found it in Rudd Branches. Why don't you go into the archives on
Rootsweb and look for the old postings? Good luck,

Glad to see the re-posting of roll calls... I've been concentrating on
my maternal lines (DIBBLE, TOWNE, SOPER, and QUICK and allied names). We
have three lines: My husband has two, and our daughter in law is also a
descendant.

Nathaniel Rudd - (2nd) Abigail HARTSHORN
Nathaniel Rudd - Mary BACKUS
Capt. Nathaniel Rudd - Alice KINGSLEY
Lebbeus Rudd - Sarah FALES
Jabez Rudd - Sylvia BUTLER
Lebbeus Butler Rudd - Lillian Effie ROSS

Dear Kathy and Joann (and others who responded),
Thanks so much for the information about Harry and Lydia Rudd. The name
Morrison threw me off as I had been looking for a Lydia Allen as that is the
name in the book. I looked at all the Harry Rudds in Rudd Branches but since
I didn't find Lydia Allen, I figured he wasn't listed. I never would have
found it!
Thanks again,
Judy
