HI, IS NO ONE OUT THERE? I SENT THIS MESSAGE OVER THE WEEKEND AND HAVE NOT GOT ONE COMMIT, WHAT THE DEAL, SOMETHING I DON'T KNOW? << Hello Cousins, I just recently found the following information and wondered where "we" stand on this wife? I see by our last roll call that at least one of us, claims Mary (by ?) as wife of our Jonathan. What do you more seasoned Rudd researcher think, is there as possibility or can we prove her out!! I know with her we lose the MM theory, but?? The follo
2. Re: Mary Birchard [1]
Dear Nancy: I have often wondered if the "MM" was for Mary Metcalfe who married in 1745 Daniel Rudd, b. 1709/10 (Nathaniel, Jonathan). I know it is a wild guess, but no one has ever come up with anything else as yet that I know of. Joann, I can see you jumping up and down now, but I've always wanted to bring this out in the open and see what the fall-out would be. Hope you are all having better weather than we are. Severe storm predicted in about 2 hours, and we've alreadey had two very bad storms with

Hi, Celia, Thanks for all that wonderful information. I'm betting you are right about the Mary Metcalf that married John Reed/Rudd. Wonder if we could find more on a John Reed??? I see by our last roll call that at least one of us, claims Mary (by ?) as wife of our Jonathan. What do you more seasoned Rudd researcher think, is there as possibility or can we prove her out!! Hi Nancy, I don't know about anyone else, but my USP (UIUC) changed phone numbers for dial-in purposes which caused some changes in the configuration. It took me a couple of days to get all the information I needed to get my computer at home changed [about 9:45 last night]. Just haven't had a chance to respond. Also wanted to ask you about some Ryerson info - genealogylibrary.com has a book on the Ryersons which includes some Rudds? I'll let you know what I found. Celia in Illinois PS: Seems
6. Re: Johnathan Rudd [1]
Hi Bill, Here's a belated great bit welcome to the Rudd Surname Mail list. We have some common ancestors, so "Hi Cuz!" My name is Celia Snyder and I have a "Descendants of Jonathan Rudd" web site if you'd care to check it out. It needs some updating, but what is there is fairly comprehensive. The address is: http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~cgsnyder/WC_TOC.HTM All the best, Celia [in Illinois] Celia G. 7. "M.M." [1]
Didn't the list also entertain the name Mary Morey as a possibility for Jonathan's wife? I seem to remember seeing that name mentioned somewhere linked to Jonathan. But I don't recall the outcome of the discussion (if there was one). Judy
8. Re: Thomas Lee house [1]
Kevin - when I was at the Lee house, I was told that whoever owned it at the time of the Bride Brook Wedding stood up with Jonathan when he was married. Can't prove it, but am quite sure I got it right. Still think it worth a try. Still would like to know if the local historical society who owns the building, I believe, have come up with anything new lately about the whole thing. Dot DuMond, New York

The county is the last item listed. In the sample I sent - Winnebago is the county. Celia >Is there a county listed? > >Jo Storie

Doesn't the chest that Kevin has on his web site have JR and MM??? I guess not?? nancy
11. RE: Rudd Reunion [1]
Hi Cousins! Since the subject has come up, I hope you don't mind my putting my two cents in regarding Mary Metcalfe. Those of us who are "old-timers" to the list remember that we had this discussion before, a long time ago, when we first got going. I went to Connecticut and saw the dowry chest, took pictures of it, and went to the state archives in Hartford to do some research. I've actually SEEN Governor Winthrop's deposition on the Bride Brook Wedding, in the original record book. Family tradition
12. Re: Cecil and William RUDD.Grantham & Nottinghamshire [1]
Kevin! HI! Food for thought. Erastus Harper Rudd is my Ancestor & I was scanning the www.familysearch.org and found a Father for our Jonathan, hopefully, has been entered. All the stats coincide, except it states our Jonathan was born in Windam, CT It states that his Father was Jonathan, Born abt 1597 in England, died abt 1668 in CT. I have NOT checked the Source of the new info. The Pedigree & Family Sheet matches our info. What is your opinion? Leora Rudd Penhorwood _________________________________

Dear Dot: So sorry about the weather, it's sunny and just right warm here in Montague, MI. As for Mary Metcalfe. I researched that question when I was in Salt Lake City in Nov. 1997 and posted my findings here. Did you Miss it. According to several sources the Mary Metcalfe, born 14 Feb 1918/19 in Dedham, MA to Michael and Sarah Ellwyn Metcalf married Henry Wilson 24 Nov 1642. They had 5 children and so was busy in 1646 when she was supposed to marry our Jonathan. This is written in Metcalfe
14. Bride of Jonathan Rudd [1]
Hi folks, I've been doing a bit of checking from several different sources. Here's some thoughts on Mary Metcalf. I believe we have at least three (perhaps four) Mary Metcalfs muddying the waters here: The one most often associated with Jonathan Rudd was supposedly the daughter of Michael Metcalf and Mary Fairbanks. They have her born ca 1625 or thereabouts. The problem with this is that Michael Metcalf was born 29 Aug 1620 and Mary Fairbanks 18 Apr 1622. I've never understood why these folks ca

Dot-- I'm liking it so far, but prosecutors don't get rich! This one's not even breaking even yet, but I'm hoping it will improve with time. I hope no one took offense at my 'recap' of the Mary Metcalf issue. I think Celia presented a concise summary of what we do know about the possible Mary Metcalfs that have been uncovered, but I think it is still possible that there may be some info out there that we don't have yet. I would REALLY like to make contact with someone in Great Britain that could do r
16. Re: Mary Birchard [1]
I'm assuming if it was Mary Metcalfe, that it was a differert one. Why couldn't it have been her hope chest and thus just the MM? I've seen the chest, and only saw the MM. Happy hunting! Dot
17. Re: Family History Center - LDS [1]
I have seen Rudds everywhere for a year. No one wants to claim kin. Do you know: Frances Rudd b. N.C. 1800. She was in Lincoln County, TN by 1819, married to James Kyser. In Lincoln County and in Bedford County James Kyser had land transactions with Benjamin Rudd. I would guess he is Frances Rudd's brother. That is all I know about Frances except she was called Fanny and that is on her marker in Texas, where they removed to claim a land grant of 640 acres in 1845. Rudd8@aol.com

Judy, Yes we did talk about Mary Morey and I posted that question on the Morey Genweb question forum (or what ever it is called) but I have got no answer. Don't remember if we had any other research going on about her. Nancy

Just for the sake of knowing, what are the details of the Rudd reunion? Celia, Illinois [you never know who might decide to show up - lol!] At 2:39 PM -0400 5/24/00, Joann H. Hi, Jane, It looks to me as if your line is in the UK, and Kevin's line comes down from Jonathan Rudd, the emigrant to America in the 1600s. Good luck, Joann Nichols Jane Jones wrote: > > Not unless they were from the first marriage which I know nothing about at > the moment! > > His first wife died sometime before 1891 when he remarried Emily STREETS, > my Ggran. > > My William Henry's father's name was Edward RUDD so it's not the same one. > However, please give me a bit more background info as to

Hi, Leora and other Rudds, The Jonathan who died in 1668 in CT was the emigrant. He is Lt. Jonathan Rudd. He had four known children, two sons, Nathaniel and Jonathan and two daughters. HI Joann! Erastus Harper Rudd, B 23 June1787, in Massachusetts, is my GreatGreat Grandfather. He died 27 June 1834, in Zions Camp, Clay, Missouri of Cholera. Was buried near there, wrapped in a blanket, beside a small stream. A few years ago my cousin sent me a clipping from the Kansas City Times, 2 Jan 1971, that he found in the Kansas City Public Library, that is relative to the deaths of Zion's Camp member including Erastus Rudd. The Article was written by David Harness. It stated that skeletal remains

Hi, Celia, Thanks for your reply. I have looked at the website you mention previously, but last night I looked at the Ancestry.com website and found them listed differently. I decided to pursue Almira, wondering if she could be the Almina that I think is Silas' first wife. Silas ended up in Rockford (he is Arlene Willett's ancestor), and had a new wife by 1850. One person has suggested that 46N might be Rockton. Guess I need to look at a map! And rather than it being 4000 acres, it is 40 acres; they
24. Re: Mary Birchard [1]
Well, glad to hear from you Celia, I was beginning to think you all left and didn't tell me!!! So Mary Birchard is a very old "wife". Just asking, but if she has been disproved, well I just ask because someone still had her listed in her roll call and I found that info. in that new book (new to our library) I do have the Ryerson Genealogy 1916. And you are right there are Rudds in it. I don't recall if I knew that or not?? But they are not in my (husbands) line so I guess I forgot. I you or any
