Robert Shaffer, 79, a former resident of Morgan County, died Wednesday at
his home in Evans.
Shaffer was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Smith County Kansas to Frank and Alberta
Shaffer. He grew up in Kansas and the Denver area. He married Irma Wolfe in
1950. He served his country during World War II in the Navy as an aviator in
the Pacific Theater.
He served as a police officer for the Denver Police Department until he

Harry Riffel, 90, former Fort Morgan resident, died Wednesday at his home in
San Jose, Calif.
Riffel was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Fort Morgan to Jacob and Anna Riffel. In
1938 he married Ann Schlothauer in Fort Morgan.
Prior to retirement, he was a national sales manager for Peterbilt Motors.
His wife died May 21, 1970. In 1972, he married Evelyn Carey. He loved to
fish and could fix anything that was broken. He was good with his hands and

John Gettman Jr., 77, of Hudson died Monday, Feb. 13, at Life Care Center of
Greeley.
He was born May 9, 1928, in Gill to John G. and Magdalena (Walter) Gettman.
On Sept. 11, 1949, he married Faye Munger in Yuma, Ariz.
Mr. Gettman attended school in Barnesville and then Hudson. He worked on the
family farm near Hudson until he joined the Navy in 1946. After being
discharged from the Navy, he moved with his wife to Denver where he worked
as a bus driver.

Michael R. Walker, 63, of Boonville, formerly of Sedalia, died Thursday,
Jan. 26, 2006, at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
He was born Feb. 12, 1942, in Boonville, a son of John R. and Myrtle Hein
Walker. On Aug. 18, 1967, in Chillicothe, he was married to Janet McNally,
who survives of the home.
Mr. Walker was an Army veteran. He retired from Southwestern Bell in 2001.

Francis Andrew "Frank" Hoffman, 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, in
Phoenix.
Frank was born July 2, 1933, to Joseph Hoffman and Iva Felkel Hoffman in
Rosston, Okla. He had three brothers, Lawrence (Joy), John (Evalyn) and
Harold (Margie), and a half-sister, Helen Felkel.
Frank was in the Army from July 1953 to May 1955. He served in Washington,
D.C., in the Honor Guard, and in Trieste, Italy, during the Korean War.

Francis R. Aschenbrenner, 74, of Warsaw, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at
University Hospital in Columbia.
He was born Sept. 29, 1931, in St. Louis, a son of Francis and Rose Krysl
Aschenbrenner. In St. Louis, he was married to Mildred Chudy, who died
earlier.
Mr. Aschenbrenner lived in St. Louis for several years. He worked for Sears
for more than 30 years, retiring in 1996. He then moved to Warsaw. He was an

Conrad Walter, 92, of Greeley died Saturday, Feb. 11, at Bonell Good
Samaritan Community, Greeley.
He was born Sept. 22, 1913, in Greeley to Conrad A. and Amalie (Wenterspoun)
Walter.
On April 11, 1935, he married Mary Ulrich in Greeley. She died in 2000.
Mr. Walter grew up in Greeley. He and his wife farmed north of Platteville.
He retired 27 years ago. He did custom work for other farmers until age 80.

Cecilia Ann Lesser, 92, of Greeley died Monday, Jan. 30, at Centennial
Health Care Center in Greeley.
She was born July 30, 1913, in West Point, Neb., to Henry and Katherine
(Uhing) Stratman. The family moved to Loveland in 1928 and farmed east of
Loveland.
On Dec. 12, 1941, she married Adolph Lesser in Kimball, Neb. On Jan. 7,
1942, her husband of less than one month left for the Army, and Mrs. Lesser
drove herself to the West Coast and found

Fred Kissler
Fred Kissler, 92, of Greeley died Wednesday, Feb. 1,
at Kenton Manor in Greeley.
He was born Oct. 19, 1913, in Grand Island, Neb., to
Jacob and Anna Elizabeth (Weidaman) Kissler.
Early in his life, the family moved to
Gilcrest-Peckham, where he grew up and attended
school.
On March 18, 1934, he married Erma Schlager in
Greeley.
In his young adult years, Mr. Kissler farmed, worked
for the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, and for most of his
life drove a gasoline transport

Tom Huffman, 76, formerly of Sterling, died Feb. 21, 2006, in Castle Rock.
Services will be held Feb. 28 at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Castle
Rock with the Rev. William Vollmer officiating. Burial will follow at Fort
Logan National Cemetery.
