Dear All,
It's been awful quiet of late! I often get asked 'How rare is the Sackett
name?', and thought somebody might be interested in this piece of trivia:-
Number of Sacketts in the UK at 9 Sep 2002 = 497 out of 54,412,638.
This is 0.0009% of the population, i.e. just under one-thousandth of one per
cent are Sacketts.
Out of 269,353 recorded surnames, Sackett ranks at 11,423.

Chris,
I found information stating that the UK Population in 2000 was 59,755,700
but it has since soared the 60 million mark. Interesting to observe that
although birth-rate has fallen, immigration has risen.
Well I personally know 4 out of those 497 UK Sacketts so thanks for that bit
of trivia.
Can't wait to see what you have on the UK 1901 census.

Hi Mildred,
I have added your profile to the Subscribers table. I did a search
for HAYWOOD and found at least three who are from that line. Maybe
they just haven't talked about it either and would love to know more
about Elijah. I hope you don't mind my sharing your message with the
list below. Posting your information is one sure way to find out if
anyone knows anything more about your Lavina. If no one replies,
they don't! ;) You have been on the list for some time but I've never

I believe that Pliny's marriage would have been within a month of so of the publishing of the banns. And the presence of children that were possibly born before 1780 would lend creedence to his marriage having been in 1776.
Since I saw your post I have done some searching in the census records and cam
In the Public Records of the Church of Christ at Westfield, Pliny was
baptised on July 8, 1753. He was the son of Eliakim and Bethesda Sackett.
I have not found a record of his birth in the Westfield Records. That
doesn't mean that it is not there. I just don't see it. There is a date in
the LDS records of May 24, 1753, but this is a submission. They have the
name as Pline. It is not an extraction from a record. Who knows where this
date of May 24, was obtained. So many of the dates of his marriage tha

Let me re-enter the discussion on Pliny. I looked again this morning at the
pictures I took in June of Pliny and Elizabeth's headstones in Southwick, MA.
What is quite clear in Pliny's is that he was 82 when he died. Also that he
died October 8, 183? The last number is a bit smudged but it does look like
an "0".
I had written Fred Sackett about this in late June and he reads the tombstone
the same. I have tried to make the last number read as a "5" with the tail of
the "5" making it look like a

Thurman and Linda, Thank you for helping me make a decision about the
marriage of Pliny and Elizabeth Kellogg Sacket. Weygant was so right on the
mark about most of his research. I've been over the Westfield records to
confirm my lines listed in his book. He did an amazing job and it is hard to
imagine he missed all those children but his source may not have known
about them so he didn't go further as they aren't listed as being in
Westfield. I also wondered about the records being transcriptions of some

I thank you for the information on the baptismal record. As for the May 24, 1753 date of birth; according to Ted Mudge that date came from the LDS microfilm of the Westfield Records Book A, Page 231. That is an extraction from a film of the original, or an early transcription of the original records.
Ted raised the question concerning so many of the records which covered so many years seem to have been written in the same hand writing which could indicate that the record in the film, although o

Subject: {not a subscriber} Information re: Robert Emmett Sackett
I am searching for ANY data regarding the birth of my grandfather which is
sparse. Here's known data:

Born: March 22, 1897 (New Haven, CT?)
Died: December 4, 1966 (Hudson, NY)
Married: Henrietta Mary Sobocinski Dec. 4 1931
in North Callaou(Canaan?), CT
This is specifically for Thurman and Fred, I wonder if information I have
on Pliny and Elizabeth Kellogg Sacket could amend Wyegants book? Wyegant
says that they were married 1780 and only had three children: Royal, Pliny
and Electa. The Kellogg book doesn't have a marriage date but lists 9
children. Elizabeth, Polly, Jerusha, Electa, Royal, Pliny, Lucretia, Oliver
and Cynthia. Elizabeth (my ancestor) was b. 1777 and is buried here in
Illinois. I have suspected that Pliny and Elizabeth Kellogg Sacket wer
I know that you were requesting an answer from Thurman and/or Fred, but am going to stick my two cents worth in. I copied all of the births and marriages on Sacketts that I found in the Westfied (Hampden County Records) and the Westfield Congregational church records. Did send Fred a copy and have scanned and sent Thurman some= I just went to the LDS IGI and looked up a marriage for Pliney and Elizabeth. There were several in there from about 1772, 1780, etc. in Westfield and one in Southwick in 1814.
I received the pictures Don sent in today's mail.
I have scanned them and used every manipulation I can think of and cannot get the last number to show up clear enough to determine exactly what it is. As can be seen in the photo that Fred Sackett has on the Sackett Headstones website, there is a dark stain over that portion of the headstone. It looks as though some time in the past someone has used chalk in an effort to make the number readable. The most obvious conclusion would be that it is a zero; wit

The web page for Subscribers is up-to-date as of this morning.
I've also added a column indicating Simon or John as Colonists.

Hi Everybody,
Just wanted to announce the most recent discovery of more Sacketts in my family!!!!
John Sackett
Some time ago Thurman sent out stuff on this gent and because he was married to an 8th great aunt, (MARY HANNUM) I saved it, just in case. Now I have found my Newberry line marrying into this Sackett line also.
Now I'll feel a little more like I "belong" on this suddenly very quiet list.
Still no Maria or Polly Or Mary Polly whatever hook ups.

Hello Cousins:
For those who are interested; Mike and Mary Burton have supplied me with transcriptions of 16 letters written by (3962) Alexander T. Sackett between September 10, 1863 and July 10, 1864. Mike Burton is a great-grandson of Alexander.
The letters can be accessed through the link "Alexander's Letters Home" at:

Alexander T. is a g-grandson of (204) Reuben Sackett.
