You'd think that anyone would be able to trace a line back to 1850, but I've been stumped on my Salters for about 10 years now. The earliest know ancestor was Benjamin Eli Salters who was born 22 Oct 1850 in Alabama, married 20 Oct 1870 in Monroe Co MS to Alice Miles, and died 1 Jan 1900 in Yell Co Arkansas. I've been unable to locate him in any census years earlier than 1880. I know that his mother was named Nancy, and that he had a sister named Amanda E. born about 1837 in AL or MS (she married James P

I have just come across the SALTER name in connection with my family and only have the following information so far: Alice Salter (circa 1833 - Uffculme, Devon) married William WOOD (my great great grandparents). I obtained Alice's name from my great grandfather's birth certificate (also William WOOD).
