I always thought my family were Saunders, until I found Michael"s marriage certificate. It was Michael Sanders.
I'll send you what I have on my family in England. As you will note many of the names are similar.
For all I know, they could be cousins.

Thank you Richard for this info. Apart from knowing Sarah's descendants
which include myself I haven't managed yet to trace those of her siblings
but I will keep this for future reference. Both variations of the surname in
the same families seem to be used quite freely as if perfectly normal. Would
this be the result of local accents and pronunciation?

Fareham Hampshire England 1767.
Children:
Sarah Sanders 1768,
John Sanders 1769,
Jenney Sanders 1771,
Elizabeth Sanders 1773
William Allen Saunders 1776.
All these born and Baptised in Fareham.
Sarah married Jesse Mitchell 1797. These are my gggGrandparents and I've just started on this branch of the family.
