My brick wall is Frederick Saunders who was murdered inSavannah, Georgia, in 1821. His wife was Martha and his son was Richard Saunders. From Richard on forward, I have all of our line, but I cannot go back any farther than Frederick. Hal: I thought this name sounded very familiar, so I checked my database and ... a modern-day James Albert SAUNDERS lives in Anchorage (Louisville), Kentucky. He was born 7 Aug 1931 so obviously not the same as the gent you're seeking, but possibly a descendant? While your particular line may be from Germany, when I lived in London, I read that the name Saunders is a corruption of the French name "Alexandre" which, if pronouced properly in French, is only a hop, skip and a jump to "Saunders". After 1066, French was the language of court in England, so, while I have no idea of that story about "Saunders" is true, it seems plausible. Malcolm, Earl and Richard, I noticed Richard's posting on descendants of Daniel Saunders and wish to state that the information on the marriage of this Daniel Saunders to Ann Carter (parents Hepzibah Bishop and Robert Carter) may be incorrect. As I posted a few months ago, I have Daniel Saunders who married Ann Carter as born in Gloucestershire.
