6. [Saxony] My opinion [1]
Hello, friends, there seems to be quite an interest in the "Introductory Letter" and yes, Nancy, I am just about through with that Tools page. Just not happy yet with the proper "phrasing" and final layout... You all talk about enclosing postage stamps, pre- addressed envelopes and adding a certain amount of $$. Don't tear me to bits and pieces, but in my opinion thats all wrong. It might be ok when you deal with government agencies or churches, but not with private individuals. Here is the way I see i

8. [Saxony] KOPPE/Bizarre surname NEIDERVERBER? [1]
Hello, everyone -- Sorry for the cross-posting, but I have an unusual problem. I've been trying to find my Emil A. KOPPE (b. to Karl and Johanna Winter Koppe, Saxony, 1860) on the 1880 U.S. census; I "know" that he was a weaver and that he came to Philadelphia in 1879 and stayed there until 1884. After much (online) searching, I've identified a strong possibility: Emil NEIDERVERBER, 25, of Saxony, a weaver living in Philadelphia with three other weavers. A Google search on "Neiderverber" yielded e

Hi David Thank you very much for the response to the ALTENBURG question and the little bit to tell me about it. May I ask how does this come about please? Regards Margaret Bauer Margaret et all: To understand why different parts of Germany were called Saxony at different times we need to go back
12. [Saxony] New to the list [1]
Hello, My name is Ann. I am new to this list. To be honest I have been worried about researching my father's family because of the language barrier and my lack of information. All I know about my family is what has been left by my grandparents. Their name and my maiden name is RECHENBERGER. My grandfather was Fritz Rechenberger and my grandmother was Hildegarde Staude-Rechenberger. They had one son, my father, Walter Rechenberger. I have found many pictures and have added them to a web page that I

Yes it would be the city of Gera in Thuringia. Mixed in with all the smaller Saxon states were the two Reuss counties Gera was the capital of Reuss-Gera. You can find a map at http://www.ieg-maps.uni-mainz.de/mapsp/map71th.htm A peculiarity of longstanding in the family was to name all the male children Henrich and to restart the numbering of the rulers at the beginning of each century. Nevertheless several sequences of rulers ran into the 30's. In 1918 the rulers of both lines abdicated and the Ruess pri

Hi, Kupfercell, ( I like that name..) of course, you are NOT off the track... This subject created a lot of activity and it seems almost everyone is interested in it. At the moment it looks like that the "fronts" are split 50/50 and, naturally, it's a personal opinion. I kind of agree with you and I think when the other side has any interest at all she/he will respond. But including some more details is a very good point too and wouldn't hurt either. Just send me some ideas what you would like to includ
21. [Saxony] Introduction Letter [1]
Hello, friends, just added the "Tools" button to our homepage. Of course, that's only the initial stage and there are many more items to come. It also contains the "Introduction Letter" which some of you called "rudely" Blind Letter.... I kept it very simple and short with the thought in mind when someone is interested in following up things, he will respond. If he is NOT interested even a 100 page letter wouldn't make any difference. I would really appreciate, if some of you could take a look and let

Sondershausen was also the capital of the principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. So he may not have been giving the biggest town but the name of the state that he was from. Since there were two Schwarzburg's, (Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt) local custom probably was to drop the Schwarzburg and just refer to where they were from by the differencing name.
