I usually don't post information about books becuase is
it commercial but the publication of the Dawes Rolls is
fairly significant for those seeking to prove
relationship to the Native American heritage. But I
hope that you all will not take offence at the
commercial.

I am researching the Dunham family of Colleton County during the 1700's.
Family members include William Denham/Dunham who received 1696 land grant
for importing his wife and child. He died 1730's. His son Jacob was the
heir at law. Jacob had two wives and died leaving a will 1745/45. Jacob
had 5 sons and one daughter.
Two of Jacobs sons, Daniel and William moved with the Dorchester Society of
Dorchester Berkley to Sunbury GA in 1752. The apparently eldest son James

I am still looking for the list of members from the congregations in Essex

I have added the scanned images of some dissenter wills on the web site. I

Hi Deborah,
Dorothy Webb came to SC with Benjamin Webb from
Massachusetts. She was John Hendricks sister. I don't
know of her being married to Mathew Bee, unless it
happened after Benjamin died...but I believe he was
still alive in 1720.

here is the memorial. It indicates that Dorothy Hendricks married frist
Matthew Bee, then William Stevenson, and last Benjamin Webb. This would
indicate that Dorothy is the mother of Sarah Webb duaghter of Benjamin
Webb. The memorial possibly is a marriage settlement to protect the
interests of her children by Bee and Stevenson.

I have a little bit more on them if you're interested.

That is what I thought, but, the memorial shows that she has children by
Matthew Bee, and William Stevenson in 1732 when John Hendricks is giving to
William Hendricks land to hold in trust for Dorothy Webb and her children.
Sarah Webb daughter of Benjamin Webb was not one of the children listed in
the memorial.

I have a question, about Dorothy Hendricks wife of Benjamin Webb. In a
memorial vol 3 page 508, she sets up a trust for herself and her children.
One of her children is Mary, wife of Thomas Sacherville. This Mary was the
daughter of Matthew Bee and wife Dorothy. Am I correct in being knocked
over with a feather that Dorothy Hendricks first married Matthew Bee, then
married Benjamin Webb?
Thank you. This does help. alot. I'll take what ever else you have. If I
have anything else that will help you, please ask.

Yes, I recently joined this list. Were Presbyterians
known as Dissenters? My ancestors were
Presbyterians in South Carolina.
(I am non-denominational, though I attend
King James Bible Baptist Churches.)
Are there books about Dissenters in South
Carolina? Do they sell them at Barnes and
Noble?

I found a small article in SCHM Vol 73, p.87 entitled "The Baptist and
Methodist Clergy in South Carolina and the American Revolution", Durward T.
Stokes. Farily interesting with very good footnotes.
Thought that I'd pass it on. Also a couple of new members have signed on to
the list. Welcome, and you are encouraged to post to the list. this one
has a tendancy to be really quite.

When there was an established church - a government-sponsored one such as
the Church of England was in most colonies prior to the Revolution - any
denomination other than the established church was composed of dissenters.
They dissented from the established church. So, yes, your Presbyterians
were dissenters in most of the colonies. But I think the Presbyterian
