In land records in the Archive I came across the following:
"Hagan, Dennis, Memorial for 150 acres on Lynches Creek, Craven County".
What is a "Memorial" in regards to land?
Tks.

In South Carolina, a 'memorial' was something like current abstracts. They
traced the ownership of a piece of land from the current owner back to the
original owner as far as the records could trace them. Most are available
in books at genealogy libraries.
In searching land deeds in South Carolina I came across the following for
the year1768:
"Hagan, Dennis, Land Grant for 150 acres in Craven County".
In 1768 in South Carolina who/what would grant land to an individual?
Thanks,
Fred Hagan
Dennis HAGAN bought land in Craven County, S.C. in 1756, 1763, 1767 and
1768. Who were his wife and children?
Other Hagan's in Craven County that also bought land: John Hagan in 1761;
Maria Hagan in 1765; William Hagan (Hagans) in 1772 & 1774; John Hagan
also bought land in Ninety Six District prior to 1786. Who were these men
and woman and how do they relate to to each other and to Dennis Hagan? Any
help appreciated.
Tks,
Fred Hagan
