Hello,
My name is Lisa Chmiel. My great great grandmother, Maggie HIGHTOWER
married a man named CALVIN CANTRELL. They had several children, including
my great grandmother, TESSIE. They lived in Greer (Grier) in Greenville
county. He abandoned the family when my grandmother was young. Do these
names sound familiar to anyone? I have had a heck of a time finding this
man ANYWHERE in the united states, period. Does anyone know what I can do?
Are marriage certificates easy to find around that area? I

lived in Spartanburg/Greenville/ upper area ... Maybe even Union...I think this
is her family .. This Mary that you have found. The Goodletts married Youngs...

Hi Dolores,
Thanks for responding to my query! I'll give you some background. My grandfather was Ben MASTERS, b. 1863; d 1957. His wife was Ella EVANS, b. 1871, d 1924. They had 10 children, including my father. The youngest, Edward, died just three months ago.
But here is the puzzle. None of my father's siblings seem to know anything about their grandparents, except for their names, Ben MASTERS and Grace TROTTER. Uncle Edward told me they were buried in Ooleney Cemetery. I've searched the cemeter
There are lots of MASTERS and TROTTERS in Pickens Co. presently. That's my
home originally, and I know quite a few. If you can write me and give me
some idea about dates, I may be able to help. I've got several resources at
home on Pickens Co. Glad to do it!
Godspeed...

The library has newspapers, land deeds, census records on microfilm. They
also have a number of church records on microfilm. Death and marriage
records are another matter. SC restricts who can have access to those
records. Death records were not required to be fil

Sandy,
Charles Smith was one of five brothers who moved to SC from Virginia. Charles
married Diana Hamm. They lived in Spartanburg County, near Walnut Grove/Glenn
Springs area of the county. Charles is on record as a Rev War soldier, but from
what I can see, his service time was somewhat limited. The father of Charles was
Peter Smith. Any connection? Anne

Hello,
I descend from the Pettypool/P'Pool/Poole family of Traveler's Rest,
Greenville, SC. My grandmother, Eva May Poole was the daughter of Wade
Hampton P'Pool/Pool, son of Hampton McVAY P'Pool and his wife, Caroline
Sabrina Pool. (I'm not certain is she's a POOL, too, but my Poole family
bible records list the maiden names of other females, but Caroline is listed
as Pool.)
Her father, Wade Hampton Pool's married his cousin, Lizzie Benson POOLE,
daughter of Demarcus Roland POOLE and his wife, Mary P. NE
Hello,
I am new to this list and am tracing JUDITH Crane/Crain, whose Will was
probated in Greenville Co in 1792. She was then the widow of Charles
Crane, whose Estate was probated in Abbeville District in 1786. She
mentions her 5 small children - and perhaps there were more. I would
really appreciate hearing from anyone interested in the Crane/Crain name.
Thanks,
